This is to comemerate my reaching the 100 gigabyte mark in my music collection.

I haven't listened to it all yet as sometimes I'm downloading at around 180k per second and that is quicker than you can possibly listen to it.

I now have collected 1285 Albums since last October. If I can't find what I want free to download, I look for the album on ebay then

rip it to my collection, the least I paid for an album on ebay was 35p, the most was 7 pounds.

I know there's always one or two people against this kind of thing, so one more thing, several of the worlds biggest players in the music industry made "record" profits last year. (unbelievably as there's so much crap in the charts at the moment).

I only collect what I like, there are literally only a handfull of exceptions where friends have asked me to look out for an album they can't get hold of and I've downloaded it for them and left it in my collection.

What I choose to download falls into...

1. Music I have always collected on CD and I'm able to download the rest of that artists material

2. Experimental - Music I think I might like because it fits my genres but I'm downloading to listen for the first time

3. Music from my past - either I lost this when tapes and vinyl went out or music which belonged to someone else.

I realise there's probably not that many people on this site into mass storage - but if anyone knows about disk arrays I'd be interested in finding out more.

Currently I have half a terrabyte of storage and am looking for a way of backing it up without going to tape or dvd.

was just having a look at your collection...didnt realise you are a fellow marillion-aphobe..if you didnt catch them on tour last time they are touring again in nov/dec...prolly still do plenty of marbles..invisible man and fantastic place are brill live

with regard to the file sharing you asked about a while back..everything that you have that i would want i already have...and i only have 3 cds on puter but they are not mp3 format

noticed some glaring ommisions from your collection though..only greatest hits of queen and elton..you oughta to have all their studio albums imo

and if you like kate bush and alanis..then you should like tori amos

Yes, I highly recommend torrents for quick downloading and use a torrent search site such as http://thepiratebay.org/ for searching (just one example) and you need a program to download files such as http://www.bitcomet.com/ You need to be a bit savy with computers to get it all working (don't know how well up you are with setting up programs, firewalls etc) Now for the best kept secret on the web... Go to http://audiofind.ru/ This is how I fill in the "gaps" in my collection, you need to keep a list of what you want from the site as they *rotate* what is free. Say you keep a list of around 10 albums you want at any one time, you will always find at least 1 or 2 of them is free for download. Keep checking back to see if the ones you want are free that day. Use a download manager to queue your jobs as each track on each album has to be downloaded individually. If it's not free, the site directs you to their paysite, but you don't need to pay for anything if you are patient. Oh, one more thing, the site is in Russian.
