I Have Brought Reproach Upon Jehovah

    Scully,

Good point about how in ancient Israel a person who exposed wrongdoing was a prophet. But they have done a 360 degree turnaround and now say that such a person is "bringing reproach on Jehovah". That phrase used to always get me because I could see that it could never have been meant to be used as they use it.

They use this phrase as a device to "guilt" people into shutting their mouths about keeping quiet about something bad. The statement usually goes hand in hand with another of their favorities: "wait on Jehovah".

When translated into English what they both mean is:

"wait on Jehovah" = do nothing

"don't bring reproach on Jehovah" = say nothing
