Man, I'm sorry I missed that episode.

I suspect that thousands of JWs Simpsons fans, watching that show, completely missed the fact that the joke was at their expense, and only recognized other doomsday cults as the butt of the joke.

I think that to be a JW and a fan of the Simpsons at the same time probably means you're not really that hard-core of a JW, but I agree that most probably miss the point.

I wish South Park would do a big send-up of the Rapture mania. They're almost too righty anymore, taking really nasty shots at PETA and stuff like that.

just gotta think that Matt Groenig has studied with the Witnesses. No JWism doesn't call it the Rapture, but the heart of it is there. -- Brenda

Right on, Brenda. The pseudo-calculations, the numeric BS, the dogmatism (after Archie Bunker, Homer is the perfect vehicle for that).

Now that they've cooled down on the date stuff, not to worry since we now have Jcanon (Jesus Christ Anonymous) on our board filling the gaps.

It may have been the same episode as this, or maybe this was a 2-parter, but I saw another Simpsons show recently that was pretty funny, about religion. Homer had converted to Catholicism, and it caused a big ruckus. Then Bart, of all people, told everybody to get a grip and stop fighting because they were all christians. At the end, there was a future shot of 2 armies getting ready to attack each other, fighting over what Saint Bart meant to them 1,000 years later. Funny stuff. Another funny moment was when Flanders agreed to shake hands with a Catholic, then starts muttering to himself "remember to get hand reblessed, remember to get hand reblessed".

My wife was in the kitchen, and I called her in to see it cause I thought it was so funny... I explained the background as she walked in: "Homer converted to a different religion, and its causing all kinds of funny trouble, you gotta see this". My wife: Changing religion in a marriage? Oh, that's never good. Me (deadpan): Tell me about it.

She either chose to ignore it, or it flew right over her head, but I couldn't help but think how ironic it was that she could recognize that in a mere cartoon show, but apparently not about our real life, what with her studying with witnesses. *sigh*

heathen sez: "I mean jeeze the way we are going we won't even have clean water to drink in the near future. I don't see anything that great about today but tomorrow looks very interesting." 1. The recipe for boiling water is not likely to ever be forgotten. 2. You need to get outside more. Soon. Go to the beach, visit a national park or even a state park. Get a life. Borrow one if you have to. Robert V Frazier

Dude I think there is a little more to it than just boiling water once it gets to a point of polution . True if it weren't for environmentalists we would be there already since the greedy manufacturing sector likes to dump toxins in rivers or lakes . I've even known people that drained their sess pool into rivers . It's disgusting what people will do to save $$$$ .
