No one gives a rat's ass about richest country on earth, the irony being that poor countries treat their citizens with more feeling, urgency and humanity than I've seen this past week. Nonsense, see how you treat the poor amongst you?! Just face up to the relief, and stop drawing stupid analogies with backwater African countries you've probably never seen.
No need to be hostile to me, Gozz. We're on the same side, I think.
I was just amazed at how every one at the Superdome was kept locked in at the Superdome, even after conditions were so bad that it would have been better to be left to your own devices out in the flood zones.
I mean, if you kept rabbits in a pen that was half as filthy and as horrible as what has been reported, your Daddy would have taken you out back and beat you till you couldn't sit for a month. And yet, this was allowed to happen to human beings! It reminded me of the way the Jews were herded into railcars, or the way the Japanese Americans were done the same way during WW2.
So here we have a large group of people, and yes, they are Black, being herded together in a condition of misery that wasn't alleviated for days! It looked, at first glance, like the Third World on TV. And I am just amazed at the governmental incompetence that allowed people to be abandoned at the Convention center for 3 days with no food, no relief, no crowd control.
On Thursday afternoon, the head of Homeland Security, in an interview on NPR, had no idea that there were several thousand people at the Convention Center. He wouldn't believe what the reporter was telling him at first, saying it must be rumor or anecdotal stories. Even though everyone watching CNN knew they were there, the people in charge of the first wave of rescue and relief had no clue. And then he kept going on about how people were getting relief in the "proper" staging areas, as if they should have been at the Superdome, and not the Convention Center, EVEN THOUGH these people WERE TOLD to go to the Convention Center!
Were these people just ignored because they were Black, and therefore, automatically dangerous in a large group? I get the feeling that's the underlying subtext to what happened.
If these had been people from a convention of the Gulf Coast Yacht Club, how fast would relief have gotten there?
