I found out Friday morning that 2 of my cousins took a trip to New Orleans last week without telling my aunt....but they are adults so.... Anyway, they're known to take off to have fun (usually to gamble) so I didn't think much about it last weekend but time went on and my aunt got really worried. My older brother started calling around to mutual friends and found out that they went to New Orleans last week.

So to make a long story short my aunt just called saying my cousins are in someplace called New Roads. My older cousin said that they couldn't get out of NO when the hurricane hit and then didn't know what to do after but on Wed. they decided to walk out. My cousin said that some 19 year old kid in an El Camaro (spelling?) driving his mom and grandma out of New Orleans stopped for them. It took awhile for them to get a hold of anyone from my family but they finally did and I'm sooooooo happy! It's about 5am here and I can't sleep after hearing from my aunt.

Thanks you guys. I was already a bit beside myself after the hurricane hit and all those people were left with nothing--but to know I had family members down there (even if I didn't know for sure until Friday) really made me frantic. I'm so thankful they're okay.

Glad they made it out o.k.

New Roads is a community of about 5,000 located in Pointe Coupee Parish. A ferry, which crosses the Mississippi River, connects it to St. Francisville, La. Baton Rouge is in the general area, but I'm not sure how far.

I think New Roads is positioned between Alexandria and Baton Rouge. I've finally heard from some family of evacuees that are in Dallas. The family is from New Roads. They want to come get this family and take them back home with them. There are good stories coming out of this thing.

    That is great news!

El Camero probably = El Camino

A scene that really touched my heart was when tv showed a group of young folks, bartenders, waitresses, that worked together in the French Quarter, hiking out of the city down the interstate very early on. I hoped my kids would have done the same had they found themselves there.
