Elders: Do as I tell you, whether I'm right or wrong

In the last congregation that I frequented, on two separate occasions, and two different elders, I was told to do what they said, whether they were right or wrong! This brought some ridicule in answer, from my lips. The Elders said to do otherwise is to go against Jehovah. I persisted in not accepting their actions when they were blatantly wrong. But they made you feel as if you were going against Jehovah (a very clever ploy that they use on many occasions).

One instance from the Bible that answered this nonsense, was the time that David was in the tent, when King Saul was asleep, David stole his drinking vessel and spear, he then shouted down from the nearest hilltop, what he had done and ridiculed Saul in the sight of his followers, eventhough he knew that Saul was anointed by Jehovah, this must have been humilating for Saul as he was the "Utimate Elder" But we do not see in the Bible, any counsel directed at David for these actions. David certainly didn't take notice of Saul (Jehovah's anointed) on ALL occasions!

I wonder how many others have come across this sort of reasoning from Elders (or as some refer to themselves as Glorious Ones)

That would be a clear case of "lording it over the flock of god in your care", wouldn't it? A true Christian (as opposed to True Christian™) does not need to "lord it over" the congregation, or throw their weight around to get anything accomplished.

    Typical schoolyard bullies, they are.

Well, yes, when Johnathan disobeyed his father and let David escape. David certainly did not come running back to certain death.

1 Samuel 20: 30 NIV Saul's anger flared up at Jonathan and he said to him, "You son of a perverse and rebellious woman! Don't I know that you have sided with the son of Jesse to your own shame and to the shame of the mother who bore you? 31 As long as the son of Jesse lives on this earth, neither you nor your kingdom will be established. Now send and bring him to me, for he must die!" 32 "Why should he be put to death? What has he done?" Jonathan asked his father. 33 But Saul hurled his spear at him to kill him. Then Jonathan knew that his father intended to kill David. 34 Jonathan got up from the table in fierce anger; on that second day of the month he did not eat, because he was grieved at his father's shameful treatment of David.

Johnathan also disobeyed his father on the battlefield, stopping to eat. Saul almost executed his own son, but was dissuaded at the last moment.

1 Samuel 14:26 NIV When they went into the woods, they saw the honey oozing out, yet no one put his hand to his mouth, because they feared the oath. 27 But Jonathan had not heard that his father had bound the people with the oath, so he reached out the end of the staff that was in his hand and dipped it into the honeycomb. He raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened. [a] 28 Then one of the soldiers told him, "Your father bound the army under a strict oath, saying, 'Cursed be any man who eats food today!' That is why the men are faint."

    1 Samuel 14:45
But the men said to Saul, "Should Jonathan die—he who has brought about this great deliverance in Israel? Never! As surely as the LORD lives, not a hair of his head will fall to the ground, for he did this today with God's help." So the men rescued Jonathan, and he was not put to death.

Again, these are examples where the spirit of the law overrides the rule of the law. Saul never understood that.

It's really sad to see this sort of nonsense spouted by the organization these days. Apparently, they feel no shame in

proclaiming themselves to be 'kings' and above being questioned.

David was on his way to becoming king and wisely sought to avoid killing Saul or his family to avoid further division in the nation.

Paul openly reprimanded Peter, one of the twelve apostles, when he acted wrongly.

But remember: When they tell you what to do and you disobey, you are disrespecting Jehovah's Voice; but when you do obey and it turns out to be a mistake - then they are just "imperfect humans". ITS MIND CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah they've tried to pull the same crap on me, usually quoting what happened to that fellow (what's his name??) that stood up anainst the Moses. So I've told them, yeah he did it because he wanted Moses' position and I sure as hell don't want yours, so that doesn't apply to me for sure.

After that they didn't know what to say, which was good, lmao.

It is not WHAT elders tell you to do, it is because THEY said it. Same apllies with the the WT in Brooklyn. It's not WHAT they say, rather, it's because the SOCIETY says it.
