would a Christian ever want to give the impression of possessing some supernatural, unexplainable power?

ehhh isn't that exactly what the WTBTS claims they have ???? hmmmmmmmm self aggrandizement also applies to them .

;"practitioners manipulate or exploit the onlookers’ perception of reality for their own aggrandizement

sounds like the WTBTS condemning themselves here .... I think the basic idea behind the magic show is not about self aggrandizement but an art form of entertainment . Everybody knows not to trust their perception when they see a magic show , guys like Penn and Teller made it clear it is all about distracting the audience and the audience ability to suspend their disbelief , that's why there is always a scantilly clad assitant on stage , they know men will oggle that ..........LOL BTW I think Penn and Teller are the best magicians around , I love their shows .

Ironic given the weird, mystical and magical foundations that CT Russell built his theology on......"watch me pull the year 1914 out of this giant pyramid!!!"

LMAO@kid-A --- That about sums it up from their own history . Then there is Daniel chapter 4 where some how we get 7 times 360 .. now all we have to do is suspend our disbelief here and presto abra cadabra we were chosen by christ by 1918 as his bride ...................

Of course some magicians like David Blaine(sp?) cultivate an aura of "dark power" as a source of their tricks while others like Penn & Teller reveal straight up that it is only a trick.

LOL, that's exactly why Penn&Teller got kicked out of the Brotherhood of Magicians.
