Okay I have a problem and it is called Jacob my cat. We found him a few months ago ( he was a stray and my mom brought him home) and the first day he was fine but over the last two months his behavior has gotten really bad. He has developed the habit of biting (hard) and he also scrathes you for no reason. A few days ago I was sleeping when I suddenly woke up because he was bitting my face. He also has a tendency to try and sratch your face and legs and attacks for no reason.

I have another cat, Josephine and he attacks her at every chance. She is now living in my room because she will not go out to the other rooms where he may be. He has bites her on the side of her neck ( they are not playing) and now when she sees him she begins to growl, which is not normal for her ( she is very sweet).

I am at my witts end and am considering taking him to the pound. I would never do this if I felt like his behavior could get better, anyone have any suggestions?

Have you taken the cat to a vet to see if there might be a medical reason for this agression?

What do you know of the cat's former life? Was it abused or semi-feral?

Really, a talk with the vet (or a cat behaviorist like Pam Johnson Bennet - http://www.pamjohnsonbennett.com/) is advised.

Cats aren't capable of being evil - they are behaving in a way that makes perfect sense - to them. It is up to us to figure them out.

I think my cat was born to a stray cat that was in our building and you are right I have had cats all my life and this is the first time I have had one that behaves this way.

My brother had an evil cat at one time. I would spend the night and the cat would attack me -- and it wasn't playing. After about 6 months of living with the behavior my brother took the kitty to the vet and it ended up having feline leukema (sp?). Not sure if that was the connection between the "evilness". . . I really can't remember what the final outcome was, but I would recommend taking your kitty to the vet and telling them about the behavior.

Five mintes in the bbq is guaranteed to exorcise any demons it may have. Afterwards, it would make a dandy candleabra You would be the only one on your block w a candleabra named jacob

A kitty BBQ, well I guess thats an option...Tastes just like chicken, right?

Seriously though, I don't want to take him to the animal shelter but I also don't want to deal with his behavior anymore.

    HOW FERAL IS FERAL

Feral cats are wild animals. Some are abandoned pets; others are born in the wild to existing ferals or to strays. Kittens born in the wild, with no exposure to humans during the socialisation period (3-8 weeks) become wild animals. Many ferals approach familiar people for food and some become tame through regular contact, or are tamed by carers. Farm cats (barn cats) are often considered to be "semi-feral" or "semi-tame" since they are accustomed to some (albeit limited) interaction with humans. In Scotland, feral cats have hybridized extensively with the indigenous Scottish Wildcat (F sylvestris), creating mongrel wildcats, including the large, black wildcat hybrids known as 'Kellas cats' or 'Moray cats'.

    THE TAMEABILITY FACTOR

Some trapped cats prove to be docile and can be rehomed with the minimum of resocialisation. They will have been strays which have not yet reverted to the wild (check that they are not pets cats which sometimes hang out with the colony). Feral kittens can be tamed and some older ferals respond to humans and become tame. Tamed ferals must be placed in quiet, understanding homes where there are other cats to provide feline companionship. Genetic factors also influence tameability. Here are some examples from my casebook:

"Scrapper" was trapped aged 10 years and aggressive, but became a very affectionate pet. "Aphrodite" was tamed at 5 months and become loving with her whole family and with house guests, yet "Tabs" tamed at the same age, trusts only his tamer. "Sapphire" was hand-reared from a few weeks old but retained semi-feral tendencies. "Jade" was untameable at 4 months, but 10 months later she walked into a house of her own accord and became a lap cat.
