I was asked to investigate some alleged ignorant remarks on this thread.

All I'm going to say is:

    • I do not appreciate prejudice of any kind, whether it's based on size, gender, intelligence, race, handicap, sexual orientation or religio-cultural characteristics.
    • I do not have a problem with anyone respectfully challenging those biases, and if someone holding those biases gets upset over the challenges they are presented with, it's likely an indication that they need to clarify their own feelings about the biases and prejudices they have.

    Carry on.

JH, you could have made your point about the Elder getting his wife to do all the work around the house without even making reference to his weight.

    This is what I mean:

I know an elder who gets his wife to mow the lawn and shovel the entrance. She also works hard inside to make his food and keep everything clean. He is 73 and she is 70.

I wonder what verse he uses to make her do so much?

When you added the "so fat" and "out of shape" remarks you made a value judgement on him based on those qualities. He may be those things, but those things may not have anything to do with the fact that he gets his wife to do the vast majority of the household tasks. It would have been just as judgemental if you had said:

I know an elder who is black and makes his wife mow the lawn and shovel the entrance. She also works hard inside to make his food and keep everything clean. He is 73 and she is 70.

I wonder what verse he uses to make her do so much?

This is not the first time that you have made statements berating overweight people. Maybe you don't mean to be rude, but people do find remarks like that to be judgemental and offensive. Sometimes they just don't have the assertiveness skills to put rude people in their place.

Yes Scully, but you've all missed my point.

Don't JW's elders condemn being glutton or is it just me that imagined that?

I wont talk about overweight people anymore.

I do not believe in suffering fools gladly, so I'll add my voice to this thread. JH, you're a tool and your prejudice is obvious. Your attempted silencing - even to the point of calling in a mod - someone for disagreeing with you is disgusting. Such tactics are used by the WTS.

Don't JW's elders condemn being glutton or is it just me that imagined that?

A person can be a glutton, but not necessarily be overweight. Ever heard of bulemia? These people stuff themselves with food and then make themselves throw up so they never gain weight. It is a psychological disorder.

Gluttony, while we typically think of it in reference to food, can also be experienced with other excesses in behaviour as well. If you have a married couple engaging in consensual WT approved sexual activity 25 times a day, that could be a "gluttonous" sexual appetite. Do you really think they are going to get reproved for that? What if someone has another obsessive disorder that causes them to eat for comfort? What if someone was trying so hard to do EVERYTHING perfectly as a JW, but always hears from the platform that they have to do more, or God will kill them at Armageddon?

What a lot of people who have NEVER been overweight do not understand is that for some people, food is like a friend. A friend who never criticizes them for not attending all the meetings, or going in service enough, or answering properly at the WT study. A friend who never judges them, is always available to them and never rejects them. This is a psychological problem, a self-esteem problem, and the WTS does not help people solve their psychological problems, but rather often makes those issues worse. How often has the WTS advised people to "not think more of oneself than is necessary to think"? Do you realize that a lot of JWs feel that exercising is a form of "vanity", or thinking too highly of oneself? They feel like they're damned if they do, and damned if they don't.

And to get back to the original question you asked: No I don't think elders' wives are more submissive. That's an erroneous generalization. Just like the generalizations you make regarding overweight people.
