Yes. It'll probably be a lot less crowded this year than the average.

I wouldn't go to any year's Mardi Gras. I detest vast crowds of obnoxious drunken frat boy douchebags, boobies or no boobies.

The food there is fabulous...I would just want to know where the water for preparation is coming from!!! In the initial news reports they indicated that the water supply/pipes could be contaminated...just would like to know that it would be safe. Hate to see tons of people getting sick!!! I love walking around the art district and going in all the wonderful antique shops. There are a number of great things to see and do there.

I love NOLA. One of the best memories of my childhood was when my very hip fourth grade teacher/girl scout leader took us to the French Quarter for field trip. It was 1968 and Jackson Square was full of hippies. We were fascinated by them as we had only seen them on TV. We asked for their autographs and they told us wild stories such as one of them named Spider Monkey lived in a tree and cooked on hot plate.

I prefer Mardi Gras in Mobile. It originated in Mobile and was exported to NOLA many years later. When I was a child, I got to see Louis Armstrong play Hello, Dolly! in one of the parades in Mobile. I would like to go home again to see her when she is rebuilt and back on her feet. I won't go during Mardi Gras though. It's just become like a big, tasteless springbreak, what with all the girls pulling up their shirts and the opportunists who throw them beads.

South Louisiana is one of the most charming and friendly cultures there is. There is more to it than NOLA. Go visit down there, not during hurricane season and go back into the smaller towns and get a taste of the culture and food. You can still visit some of the renovated plantations, too.
