"JW's only help other JW's!" - So what?
It should read "JW's only help other select JW's!" - So what?
I've seen many JWs who needed help but never got any from other JWs.

I was listening to the radio yesterday and heard about a company ("Entergy"? Can't recall for sure) that was really going out of its way to help its employees in the hurricane ravaged area. It set up a web site listing all the items donated by its employees across the country. Then the needy employees could log on, browse, pick stuff, and have it shipped to them for free! How cool is that?
I thought, "That's what JW's do! They take care of their own. So why do we berate them, but praise Entergy?"
Then I remembered that Entergy doesn't call itself a CHARITY! They aren't claiming tax-free status. They are a profit-making company and they admit it.
The Watchtower claims charity status, but does NOTHING for the communities they exist in. No food drives, no job assistance, nothing.
I believe that's the problem, and why it rubs me the wrong way that they only help their own. They think of themselves as a "family", and they want to care for their brothers and sisters. Fine, go for it. But don't call it "charity" work, 'cause it ain't.

Outstanding point! That's true. They are much more likely to leap in and rebuild a house in a far-off tornado-ravaged area than they are to give a single bag of groceries to a poor brother in their own congregation.

In my experience, it is the most destitute in the congregations who are the most charitable. I am not talking about the leeches who have no job so they can bum lunch off everyone else and have glory parts on convention programs about their pioneer hardships. I'm saying that the ones who work hard and still have nothing seem more willing to share what little they have.

Absolutely true. I cant find that scripture where it says "what a strange thing it is to just greet a brother" paraphrased and the one where you sympathize with someones physical need but then just walk on by without helping that person.

Not sure if this is the one you mean, but it carries the idea. James 2:15,16
If a brother or a sister is in a naked state and lacking the food sufficient for the day, yet a certain one of YOU says to them: “Go in peace, keep warm and well fed,” but YOU do not give them the necessities for [their] body, of what benefit is it?
