Mozz's aunt was all excited about doing their family tree. She was convinced they had important people in their lineage. The more she researched, the more she was disappointed. Much of his family were nothing but a bunch of horse thieves and criminals back several hundred years ago.

I guess I married into a colorful family.

    LOL!

where my sister lives in Ontario, Benedict Arnold is considered a Saint, yet just 20 miles away in Buffalo, New York, he's considered the worst traitor known to man since Judas Iscariot

Hey, I live in Buffalo and I think Arnold was a fine chap.

A couple of decades ago before the Mormons got on the internet and developed their ancestry history thingamajigger, my aunt traced our family back to Richard the Lionheart. I proudly display my family's British crest.....um... somewhere around here.

Tracing family history is interesting and fun as well. Over the last four or five years Kathy and I have done quit a bit of internet research. We have several family lines traced back to the seveteen hundreds. The fun thing has been meeting other "cousins" along the way. No one famous to speak of. Did find out I had a distant connection to Mattie Blaylock Wyatt Earps first wife. I would recomend it to anyone. Good therapy and you never know who you may find.

I love Census records because they put the family together, but they only happen once every hundred years. Here's how I "step back" in time.

    1. Interview your older relatives to get names, birthdays, and locations for grandparents, great-grandparents.
    2. Find the most recent census record for a family. Record all the siblings, their ages, maiden names, origin.
    3. Count backwards to get an approximate DOB for each family member. Search for each family member in turn for birth and marriage records at www.lds.org
    4. If you are lucky, you might hook up with someone else's completed tree.
    5. The birth records will hopefully list parents and maiden names, and their age or DOB.
    6. Look up the parent's birth and marriage records at www.lds.org
    7. Keep repeating until you get back to the next census, two or three generations tops.
    8. Repeat from step 2.

They do baptism of the dead, whether the dead like it or not.

Yes, my sister has gone back several generations. Only people I have found that were maybe a little famous, I had a relative who was hung of riding with Jesse James gang on one bank robbery. Guess he had the slow horse.
