Good darn thing we have ours earlier, too, C_Y_P. Otherwise we'd be knee-deep in snow and mistaking Santa for an overly plump-red turkey.

So what are Canadians celebrating during thanksgiving. For us Yanks it is supposedly the pilgrims making it through the first year and all that jazz. Is it some sort of thanks that the Pilgrims didn't come up to Canada or something?

The same, thing, survival. Our famed first explorers nearly died their first winters.
Cartier stayed the winter in the Quebec City fort, but was unaware of the cold climate. The crew became sick with scurvy, 25 men died. The natives helped the Europeans regain their health. They boiled bark and needles of white cedar that is rich in ascorbic acid.
Edited to add: Hey! We did get some Yanks. The loyalists. They did influence our existing traditions.

JGNat that is a beautiful thing to read. Thank you for sharing it with us. It makes such a difference when we can mend things that continue to play on our minds.
Wishing you and your family all the very best

Your opening post was so warm and ... human. I loved it. Brought tears to my eyes.
How blessed you and your family are to have had such a loving person in your lives and for all of you to open to receiving that love.
I have a mental image of something symbolic of Myrna being used during the dinner. A special platter or serving bowl. I have done that with some of my grandmother's dishes. We don't always talk about, but we all know who's it was.
Thanks for sharing. I'm going to go cry now because I miss my grandma again.
