Wasnt Elijah refering the Baal in that verse?

    what's the difference?

Yes he was. But to me "Jehovah" is just another false god. If he really exists (and I don't believe that he does) he's done more harm than all the Ba'als put together.

Luke 21:8 He said: “Look out that YOU are not misled; for many will come on the basis of my name, saying, ‘I am he,’ and, ‘The due time has approached.’ Do not go after them"

Hey thanks funkyderek. That text sure bothered me when I was a busy little door-knocker.

Guys, I've had quite a few laughs from this thread - a genuine tonic and a re-education in the power of "scriptural themes".

I'd like to reverse the request and think about texts that definitely would not be used by the JWs - or by any other self-respecting religion.

There are lots of pungent verses in which the Jehovah of the Old Testament - sorry, the Hebrew Scriptures to pedants out there - encourages genocide. Then there is the gruesomely detailed Mosaic law code and its proud anti-woman sentiments. Who can forget the tantalisingly cryptic verses about what one of Noah's sons did to Noah while he slept. And Sodom and Gomorrah are alive with creepy warnings. Enough Scriptural themes for a life-time of living in expectation of the end - which is the bitter experience of most JWs.

    or even

    Proverbs 5:19

19 a lovable hind and a charming mountain goat. Let her own breasts intoxicate you at all times. With her love may you be in an ecstasy constantly.

Malawi comes to mind in Kings2 - 9:7

The heavy judgment against the house of Ahab shows that false worship and the shedding of innocent blood are detestable to Jehovah God.

Oh, for the long gone world of Biblical texts in which men were men, and women were scorned or patronised.
