I guess, it depends on which Jews you want to believe.
D,Dog that pretty much says it all.
moshe wrote in another thread:i studied with a rabbi and found out why i was so confused by the nt gospel teachings.
of course, i never bothered to ask any jew what they teach about their messiah, i just assumed that the christian teaching about the jewish messiah matched what the jews believed about the coming messiah in the 1st century-not!
you've only vaguely brushed up against your jewish knowledge on this forum, at least that i've seen.

I saw it. Very good. Alot of doctrine was presented with pictures of WT doom. I put this right up there with Dateline.

Quote: ?Another words, the atonement would make us savable??
Jesus paid the price for our salvation. Yes.
Are you saying yes that the atonement makes us savable?
We have the choice to accept him and live our lives with him or deny him and live our lives for ourselves. And of course he would rather us love him back but only by our free will.So once we accept the gift we then decide to act on this?
i dont "get" the whole 1914 thing.
the 'prophetic rule'?
day fer a year?
Thanks CF,
Scholar posts the following in response to you:
Harking back to Zechariah 1:7 whereupon the angel declares that Jehovah had denounced Jerusalem and the cities of Judah these seventy years. This must and only must refer to an already elapsed or expired period of time as it could only have referred to that period when the Land of Judah lay desolate, such an event was signified right up to the present day by regular fastings.
This is an absolute joke! Actually Scholar means verse 14.
Would not the Angel of the LORD said 'those seventy years" instead of "these seventy years"?
"must and only must"....................
Yeah Okay!

Im a little confused by your statements about Christs' atonement.
It?s by his glory that we may be forgiven and our sins washed away to become worthy of Gods grace. How does one become worthy? (scripturally speaking)
We cannot be worthy by our own works or understanding. Only by accepting Jesus? gift can our lives be healed. Then you state our inability of obtaining worthiness

Alan F, CF. nice work as usual.
Ive taken the back door approach to scholars (wt) position, along with his inability to connect years rule to fit WT bogus renderings. Ive shown the following to an senior elder who thought he was well versed in the subject his final thoughts were " well there musta been another Babylonian king thats not mentioned."
Insight vol. 1 "Babylon"
Finally, after a 43-year reign, which included both conquest of many nations and a grand building program in Babylonia itself, Nebuchadnezzar II died in October of 582 B.C.E. and was succeeded by Awil-Marduk (Evil-merodach). This new ruler showed kindness to captive King Jehoiachin. (2Ki 25:27-30) Little is known about the reigns of Neriglissar, evidently the successor of Evil-merodach, and of Labashi-Marduk.
More complete historical information is available for Nabonidus and his son Belshazzar, who were evidently ruling as coregents at the time of Babylon?s fall.
The Jw no matter who, has to face the irrefutable fact he cannot make his kings list span the years given for Babylonian rule (WT years) 625 BC to 537 BC
Ive yet to see a JW accomplish this.
this letter was posted over on (channel c) and (ex-jw california).
thanks stan for posting it!.

How could Jehovahs electric current (active force) help one decide whats best?????????
Just start with Nabonidus, the last Babylonian king, and work backward.
Robhic, I agree, she did a great job. Ive asked Neil in many threads to make the "neo-kings list work, as always never an answer.
Forget who wrote what about this or that, the simple way to refute 607 is ask the un-answerable question; make the kings list work.
At this point it appears strange that a person that calls himself a scholar and a Jw can honestly rest in what the non-scholarly WT dishes out.
from your parents when you got home from service?
for me it was, "did you place today?
" pretty much sums up what service is about for most witnesses... i always prefered a good conversation, even at a young age... but the pat on the back always came from making placements... especially if it was a book!.
For me I totally avoided feild service alone. Bethel minute, love your avatar.
here are a few facts that i have recently discovered by doing some research.. the watchtower society uses the date of 539 b.c.e as the date that cyrus took over babylon.
they use the term "absolute date" to define this as an unquestionable point in time.
to do this they had to ignore 586 b.c.e which is the real date for the destruction of jerusalem.. therefore, if jerusalem never lay desolate for 70 years, when does this desolation and fulfillment of this prophecy take place?
City fan,
You've exploited the classic rebutal to the "angel of the LORD" in Zechariah.
It could not have continued till 518 because the seventy years were not fulfilled so the angelic reminder could only referred to something that had already concluded namely the seventy years.
Here "Scholar" gives a helpless excuse for the "angelic reminder" which comes right out of the book, "Paradise restored to mankind" by his theocracy, page 133 para. 23:
23
Be it remembered, also, that those unforgettable seventy years were the first seventy years of the Gentile Times, "the appointed times of the nations." So, when those seventy years ended in 537 B.C.E., the Gentile Times still continued on for Jerusalem to be trampled on by the Gentile nations. (Luke 21:24) Apparently, then, the angel who cried out, "O Jehovah of armies, how long?" was referring back to that former period of seventy years as an illustration of Jehovah?s denunciation of his chosen people. He was asking whether Jehovah?s denunciation of them was being renewed because of their long neglect toward His temple. And so the angel was asking how long it would yet be before Jehovah would show mercy to Jerusalem and the other cities of Judah. The prophet Zechariah was also interested in knowing this. We, also! This nonsense doesnt wash, because the angel of the LORD says specifcally " these seventy years" Further there is no implication of whether seventy years would be renewed.
The witness has to swallow this ridiculous senerio given by the "tower"
