I hope it turns out to be "new light". New, sudden, blinding light that pisses every decent JW woman off, because they are the ones who do so much of the preaching work.

Why is the Governing Body pushing the very young(5-12 year old) into getting baptized into subservience to the Corporation?
by Brokeback Watchtower ini think a very simple reason may be because the very young are pretty much the only ones naive enough to take the plunge these days.
with the internet available to inform people about the deceptive lies printed by the wt corporation it seems that they are getting their member from the less informed population like the elderly and the very young.
they/gb hate higher education because they loose members who get one and so they are focusing on those that are dumb enough to believe their boogie man bull shit about jehovah choosing their corporation and anybody not a part of it he will destroyed at armageddon.. also we need to consider that they view these young people as a potential free labor source so the sooner you get them hooked into baptism with the threat of disfellowshipping you can get more free labor out of them..

It's classic "get them while their young and indoctrinate". Many other religions have done it for centuries. The baptism of infants by the Catholic Church is a savvy way to keep numbers up and keep a hold on the minds of it's followers. I think that the GB would not surprise me one bit if it decided to use the same method of constantly growing a new generation of followers from current parents, who came into religion from the last parents........and so on. Of course, they will have to live down the tribulation not happening on time and Armageddon not happening..........and the older generation of white haired ones dying off.
Ha! That puts a new spin on "this generation" teaching.

JW's copied Mormons?
by purrpurr ini've been doing a lot of research about mind control, cults etc which led me to look into the world and beliefs of mormons.
the similarities between jw's and mormons are staggering!
it's almost a carbon copy which only a few differences.. did the jw's set out to copy them i wonder?

A friend of mine, a male friend at that. Has been disfellowshipped from the LDS as he did not stand up to scrutiny. His brother is a pastor? I think that's what they are called. Anyway, we have sat beside a cold, swift brook drinking our wine and compared notes on our religious pasts.
Although doctrinally very different at certain points........The method of culling independent thinking is the same. The standards of morality are the same and the stresses are exactly the same. So too, is the damage to the rest of a child's life on through to adulthood.
Many times he has been suicidal and not able to figure out where it comes from. I gently try to tell him about counselling. Serious cult breaking counselling. I am having it every week and I have a decent woman who knows what she is doing. So in summary. My friend is suffering the same sort of distress as any disfellowshipped JW. Mostly he is suicidal and thinks that the world is going to end. I try to help...........

How are the JW's reacting to the new USA gay marriage laws?
by purrpurr inpersonally i think this is wonderful.
i have nothing against gay people and wish them only the best.. but of course i'm in a minority of one, the jw's around me are posting away on fb the most homophobic vitriol imaginable.
a lot of them are even saying that it's the start to armageddon!!.

I think it's about to be passed as a perfectly legal and equally binding covenant/marriage here in Australia.
Also, on a personal note. It was a young gay woman who many times over, saved my life, and my mad, crazy, funny, and witty gay male friend who gave a damn when my daughter died.
No JW stepped up to assist me, not even my older sister who wrote a few months later and said she would be happy to study with me, but that was the only condition upon which she was willing to help. When I look back on the coldness of it all.........I am truly amazed at how this religion has survived for so f&&)*)868g long.
My mad and lovely gay males friend was studying psychology and I think he is probably doing that right now as a profession.

What are the current rules about vaping from the GB?
by purrpurr ini mean e cigs and vaping.
not even tobacco inhaling but inhaling other stuff like herbs etc.
is this allowed?

Vaping is not allowed in the congregation I came from. I was told that I was still basically smoking by having this e cigarette between my fingers. Actually, I was accused of smoking real cigarettes because of it. I had quit and found the comfort of a e cigarette helped a great deal.
At the time of the accusation I was staying with a JW family and going through that book that has all the baptism questions. I was their daughter, a fifty year old, nasty minded woman who disliked me on sight that caused all the problems about smoking.
One night I was sitting in my room at the computer. I had my e cig in my hand and the battery was running low. Just before I plugged it into the computer to recharge......She bounced up from outside my window and said........" Don't you think you should put that cigarette out, now that you've been caught red handed?"
I said to her......." Don't you think it's creepy stalking me? You've been doing it since I got here three weeks ago" I told her I was not smoking. She said I was ...........And so it went. I was furious with her and wanted to say much more. I knew I was not smoking, but a part of me refused to give her an explanation out of stubbornness and a feeling of rightness on my part.
She had this horrible way of eating too. She would be up early in the morning for work. Her head would be over the kitchen sink, her back hunched up like....like.....a hog. That's the only way to describe her at the moment. The reason she was bent over the sink was because she had this huge cake mixing bowl full of cereal, milk and sugar in it. She was scooping the stuff so fast into her mouth that it was splashing on the drain and her face as she shovelled that cereal into her gob. It was disgusting to hear and see. She was a hefty woman.....actually she was more like a man.
I took the issue to the elders when she started spreading false rumours about my smoking. Two of them were good about it as it seemed she was a bit of a trouble maker. But she and her family were so much entrenched in the congregation that the elders did no more than give a mild rebuke to her.
I refuse to this day to justify what I was holding in my hand the night she stalked me. Later on in the week, it came to light that she and another sister had tossed my room looking for contraband. This is the only way I can put it.

Why must sisters wear skirts?
by purrpurr inand or dresses?
just what is wrong with a smart pair of trousers?
i'm sure that the women would not start behaving like men or imagining that they have a dick!.

Isn't there something in the bible about women and their hair too. I can't recall which scripture it is. I think it's about women not cutting their hair.
I was encouraged to have mine chopped off as it was and still is very long.........
Anyway, at our hall, we had this WT mag tacked to the board down the back. The witnesses in that hall were using the pictures there to show what the standard of dress is to be expected.

This is true and it happened four years ago. At the meeting there was this woman sitting right on the aisle side so that she could be seen by more people. She sat there in her white pants, her "super white" pants. Her arms were crossed in defiance and her head was held high. I wondered who she was for I had not seen her before, at least, not in pants.
All the brothers and sisters acted as of nothing was different. It was a lesson in pretending she did not exist. I thought it took guts for her as she sat there throughout the entire meeting, along with the singing and the prayer.
Having been hauled over the coals for wearing footless tights and showing some skin around my shoulders and chest, I felt proud in some way for her stubbornness. I don't know how she did it. As I said, the JWs there were pretending so hard that it was palpable the amount of tension in the hall that day.

How do you manage to keep JW friendships after you left the organization?
by Bonsai init seems incredibly difficult.
those who leave the org.
(or fade) no longer have anything in common with jehovah's witnesses, nor do they want to stick around to get radiated by the fear and guilt that saturates every aspect of a witnesses' life.. i've lost all but one of my jw friends quite simply because i can no longer condone the evil things that they condone.

go on there.

Is it necessary to prepare for the Watchtower or book study?
by BashfulAshG inall of my years in the truth, i never understood why we had to study before each meeting.
the contents are self-explanatory with the answers to the printed question within the first or the last sentence of the paragraph.
then, commenting never made sense, especially comments and experiences that don't answer the printed question.

I found that pre studying at home. Then going through it all again at the meeting was a good way to brain wash everyone. You know..........repetition for emphasis/indoctrination.
Not too many comments are allowed that don't come directly from the magazine, for the magazine has the answer supplied.

Strange Moment During The 2015 Regional Convention
by JW_Rogue inhi, i'm new here but hadn't seen this mentioned anywhere yet.
during the "imitate jesus" rc there was a strange moment where they played a video of a brother trying to explain the 1914 teaching.
the brother quickly goes through all the scriptural "proofs" and the householder is dumbfounded.

They could get away with saying that the big A is due to start "the day before tomorrow" and no one would notice.
In my fifty odd years, I have had it pointed out to me in various ways and with some frustration on the part of the person trying to convince me of the accuracy of the society's date.
When studying, I was told to trust in the wisdom of the org and Jehovah, and my study conductors (one of whom was smarter than the other) Just ended up shaking their heads. You see, I was leaning toward the "unteachable". That is a phrase that is used quite a lot amongst the JWs
