Why did ancient Israel go to war?
WHAT SOME PEOPLE SAY
The Israelites worshipped a bloodthirsty “tribal war god.”
WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS
The nations whom Israel defeated were thoroughly corrupted by violence and depraved practices—including bestiality, incest, and child sacrifice. After giving them centuries to change their ways, God said: “It is by all these things that the nations that I am driving out from before you have made themselves unclean.”—Leviticus 18:21-25; Jeremiah 7:31.
Writer intends to show that what the Bible says proves wrong what people say. But is that so?
The other nations were more corrupt than Israel only by the standards of the Law. By contemporary moral principles they were no worse.
- Today halal killing of the animals, as described in the Law, is considered as inhumane treatment.
- Incest or any other sexual activity between consenting adults is not regulated in many liberal states.
- There is at least one case of child sacrifice mentioned in the Bible, so Israelites were no better.
On the other hand the nations didn't stone to death people that collected wood on the wrong weekday. So if I was Baal I would feel more than justified to say:
“It is because of the wickedness of Israelites that Baal your God is driving them away from before you.”—Tritonomy 9:5.

Life is changing for me: no pioneering, got a job!
by Skepsis ina month ago i decided to register in this board.
i had decided to step down pioneering but was frightened about the consequences.
i had finished my university degree some months before (despite disaproval from brothers in my congregation) and i had to choose: continue pioneering and working in jobs with no future or starting a career, working full-time.. i was thinking to postpone the decisiton but... i was fed up with preaching.

Congrats Skepsis on your new job! Glad to hear that your plan is working out well. You'll see that not spending so much time on the field will help you to get emotionally detached from other peoples' opinions.
My only advice would be start building NOW a social network outside the JWs, as you will need it very soon. Go to a gym, a chess club, dance school, whatever - meet new people!

Jehovah is unjust (outrageous article on slavery in last WT for public)
by Master_Bob inaccording to the last paragraph of the article entitled "escape from slavery—then and now" (wt#2, 2017).
jehovah god felt grieved by the harsh treatment of israelite slaves in egypt; he must feel the same way about similar injustice today.. .
if you call modern slavery "injustice", wasn't the slavery during moses time also "injustice"?

I agree with most of the comments. The thing that annoys me is not the screwed ethics of OT, that is well known. I'm just surprised with WT's guts to not only mention the subject, but manipulating the facts so much that Jehovah would appear compassionate and loving god. Well he's not!
David_Jay your efforts to defend Torah's morals is pathetic. The fact that the Americans or Gentiles treated slaves worse than Jews did (some of their slaves) doesn't make the institution more just or tolerable for a perfect god who regulated even the way people dressed or shitted. Jews didn't change their interpretation of Torah because of Torah, but because the society had changed, exactly as Christians did with the Bible.
Again by means of Torah we Jews eventually learned that slavery was wrong
No, they learned that slavery was wrong because they started using their brain. despite of Torah.

According to the last paragraph of the article entitled "Escape From Slavery—Then and Now" (WT#2, 2017)
Jehovah God felt grieved by the harsh treatment of Israelite slaves in Egypt; he must feel the same way about similar injustice today.
If you call modern slavery "injustice", wasn't the slavery during Moses time also "injustice"? And how else can you call a God sanctioning such slavery if not unjust?
But according to Organization's crooked logic only Israelites' slavery in Egypt was unjust, as well as modern sex slavery. Sex slavery by Israelites, under Moses' Law, is not considered unjust.
How utterly gross hypocrisy! This organisation is making me sick. -

Fossilized foot prints, how do they explain it away?
by Crazyguy inso there have been many sets of fossilized human footprints found in africa, italy, europe, britain and new mexico.
these foot prints are thought to be anywhere from 20,000 to 2 million years old.
so what do christians and jws do to try to explain these away.
-

Of course their teaching contradicts scientific consensus. The very foundation of their "scientific" explanation about all these matters is blatantly ridiculous. Just read the "Deluge" lemma in Insight. The only people that believe that "the Bible and ourselves do not contradict science" are those who obtain their scientific knowledge exclusively from WT literature, namely the majority of JWs.
IMHO WT doctrines related to creation/flood are the easiest to factually be proven false.

Please don't confuse the age of the earth with the duration of the creation days. According to WT teaching the Earth was ALREADY there when the 1st creation day started. The fact is that the 7000 years duration is still a valid WT teaching. They DO believe it, although they avoid carefully mentioning the exact number, always referring to "thousands" of years.
Maybe because it would alienate people from the org knowing that they teach that there was no living organism on earth before 42000 years,

Blonde they dropped the 7000 year creative days back in 2013.
Fencing 43 minutes ago
They dropped the 7000 year creative day long before 2013.
How comes that? What happened at 2013 or before it?
Blonde is right, they NEVER dropped the 7k day doctrine. The last time they explicitly referred 7000 years period was in a '90 Awake. After that they've been cautious enough to mention "thousands" or "millennials" of years when talking about creation days - never EVER millions! Which means that the old teaching is alive and kicking.

What about the "core" of each Bethel, namely the Service Department and the translation team. Will they also be relocated?
