It's all coming back...
by SoJo16 ini joined the board this month and holy cow, are there ever some interesting points of view here.. a bit about my background: my dad was an unbaptised born-in who nevertheless went to vietnam and college where he met my mom.
mom was lutheran, but dad told her the only religion he was interested in belonging to was the jdubs.
they married in the early 70s and were both baptized.

Understanding our CURE from ADDICTION to the Watchtower cult.
by Fernando inwould it be fair to say many of the posts on jwn are in essence about this?.
if we could better understand what worked for us, would we be better able to help others?.
where do basic human needs ("met" by the cult) end, and where does addiction start?.

Well, we don't call it "drinking the kool aid" for no reason.
When we stop taking in the toxic message (the drug, the opiate known as religion) the effects wear off.......eventually.
As with any drug expect some withdrawals. Even though this is a totally psychological addiction.

I Dedicate this Post In Support Of Candace Conti in her effort to gain Justice For All Sexually Abused Children by the WTB&TS
by smiddy incorrect me if i am wrong , wasnt this first brought before the courts on the 20/09/2012 ?
if not earlier ?.
candace conti has held out from taking a settlement from the wtb&ts which would require a gag order .

It would be near impossible to estimate the amount of people who would be keeping an eye on this case from the wings.
It is only fitting that we voice our support.
Never underestimate the power of one.

Oh dear hortensia, geriatric drama can be the worst. There is funny episode of
Seinfeld where Jerry's father is going through the same thing as you describe.

Jehovah's Witnesses--- A Religion About Nothing
by minimus inthey say that seinfeld was a tv program about nothing.
in the end, it was all silliness.. this religion is inconsequential in the big scheme of things.
it's stupid.. .
-
sparrowdown
It may well be a religion about nothing, but they have managed to con eight million people into paying for their ivory tower.
So humungus is the con that even those who have "woken" up feel the need to live a lie and continue supporting their inflated attendance figures.

Feeling sad over a wasted life in watchtower
by wannaexit init's been 12 years since i first read ray franz's books and the scales came off my eyes.
by that time i was in my forties.. since 2002 i went back to school and have worked with 3 very professional organizations.
but my biological clock is ticking away and while my peers are looking forward to retirement, i am only beginning.

There is only one thing worse than spending twenty years as a JW, and that is spending twenty one.
Be glad you're not still there brainwashed, clueless and trapped.

Yes indeed rebel, people can be very sucky.
There seems to be some who if you get too close will suck you into their vortex of pain and drama.
Something to be said for solitary occupations like author or artist.

Is Heaven is for real for real?
by sparrowdown inwatched the movie heaven is for real.i was not familiar with this "true" story and wondered.
if anyone else is.
it is hard to know how much is a dramatisation and how much is actual account.. the story seemed "milked" at times and "much ado about nothing", but greg kinear's performance was great.. i have wondered whether the potrayal of christian america is an accurate one.. the young girl that paints jesus portraits was a nice touch (in a twilight zone kind of way).. all in all i think it raised some interesting questions about the role of faith and community.. .

Bill Cosby - too much smoke for no fire?
by Simon init seems like the list of people who are accusing him of rape and sexual assault is growing every day.
i'm skeptical of single accusations but the number of people and the similar stories seem overwhelming now.. it's not a conviction but to the court of public opinion ... guilty?.

Back in Mr Cosby's day attitudes to women and sex were very "nudge, nudge, wink, wink".
Not excusing it, just sayin.TV shows were pretty sexist and racist by todays standards.
It was a different era, prevailing attitudes of the day tend to dictate behavior.
Hopefully attitudes have improved.
But, yes, I would have to agree, too much smoke not to have been a fire.
