God really does work in mysterious ways.
i remember that every time when my father and i came home from the meeting, my mother (who stayed at home for my disabled brother) asked us "who was attending and who wasn't attending".. and then, we took some time to drink coffee and went through the list who was there and who wasn't.
there after there was an opinion made why someone was absent and what this meant in relation with his strength of believe.. just curious, do you recognize this?

In my experience with this peculiar witness phenomenon, the Q&A would quickly degenerate into gossip about why this one and that one was or wasn't there. Usually heading in the direction of things like "oh they are doing a lot of overtime, becoming materialistic..." etc etc.
But hey, yes, there could well have been some genuine personal interest there.

a jehovahs witness from stratford who took part in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl has been struggling with those demons for the last seven or eight years, a judge has heard.. but pleas for craig allen, who was said to have support from the jehovahs witness congregation, not to be jailed cut no ice with a judge at warwick crown court.. the 43 year-old of evesham road, dodwell, was jailed for two years and eight months and ordered to register as a sex offender for life after he pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child.. prosecutor andrew wallace said allen had met the girl in the mid-2000s through the church.. the girl, now a young woman in her 20s, said she began to fancy allen, who had started to pay her compliments.. then on one occasion when he gave her a lift, despite being fully aware she was only 15, allen sexually touched her.. she did not object or tell anyone what had happened, and there were further consensual incidents between them, including various types of sexual activity but not full intercourse.. someone who suspected what was going on between allen, a family man in his 30s, and the girl said something to her mother.. but when she challenged both her daughter and allen about what she had heard, they both denied it.. things stopped after the girl began to feel guilty about what was happening, and she eventually decided to come forward last year and contacted the police.. she said she had been dramatically affected by what had gone on, and that what happened with allen caused her to suffer a breakdown and still haunted her.. when allen was questioned by the police he accepted the incidents had taken place, but claimed it was the girl who had taken the lead.. elizabeth power, defending, said allen, who has a son and a daughter who were now both in their 20s, had attended for a voluntary interview with the police and made admissions.. he did not force himself on her but he was the adult and she was a child.
he says he was weak and was attracted to her.
The thing is at age fifteen you are still emotionally immature. I hear what you saying about different cultures, BUT if it subjects it's children to underage sex it's just wrong.
Fifteen yr olds aren't known for their wise choices at the best of times it would be nice to think that the adults in their midst would know this and look out for them not prey on their vulnerbailities.

Oh yeah, every congregation I was ever in, the first question from a witness who didn't attend the meeting would ask the witness that did attend was "who was there?" and start rattling off the names "was so and so there, what about this person and that?"
It was a ritual....one of the many dub social rituals that used to get on my nerves.

What I like about the book is he gives ordinary JWs a fly-on-the-wall look at stuff tbey would never ordinarily be exposed to.
To me, the people least likely to wake up are ordinary r&f, simply because they are never privy to what's really going on.

I remember an elder giving a talk once and he made a snide remark about how some "so-called professionals will claim that Jehovah's Organization causes depression and anxiety... well, you tell me brothers, does it?"
The whole audience laughed derisively and applauded.
I remember sitting there feeling angry at the question and the response from the audience, but at the time I didn't know why.
Looking back now, I can see I was probably beginning to wake up and incidents like this were helping me do so.

what if by inheritance, winning the lottery or any other way, you suddenly got your hands on $150m after tax.
you maybe would spend a third of this giving your extended family financial security for life.
you maybe would buy a boat and a few investment properties.
I would buy up some air-time on all major networks and pay a GB member to appear on a Q&A with other educated representatives from other major religions. You could really make them look like the ignoramuses that they are if you planned your questions right.
Would they be able to resist the money and the chance to glorify themselves?

I can't believe their attitudes towards health and safety at the KHs. Where I live the local cong undertook some major renovations that involved demoltion and they had people who were complete building virgins wielding sledge hammers jack hammers and nail guns. There were little kids and babies running amongst it, it was hard to tell if the auditorium that was a building site or a playground.
No hard hats, no organization of teams or jobs or zones. No qualified oversight, a real free-for-all. There were a few minor accidents but it could have been worse, much worse.
In the kitchen where there was a large electric urn that leaked boiling water at the spout placed up on the table and the smaller kids were playing underneath it!!!!
OMG it was a nightmare!!
