Scientism - Nothing But a Childish Insult?

it is not uncommon for theists to accuse rational people on this forum of "scientism".. in my opinion it is nothing but a cheap shot from those who know they lack evidence for their beliefs.

if something like "scientism" actually does exist then i have never encountered it.. here is part of an exchange from another thread - i have brought it here as it was off-topic.... scientism = claim of scientific method being universal and the only valid method of knowledge.

followers of scientism always demand scientific evidence to anything.

How much of knowledge has come about by tragic "woopsy didn't know that was dangerous" method. I just pity the poor bastards who lived in the periods of time when Drs didn't know shit. Thankyou to all those guinea pig patients and mentally ill people and soldiers and gay people who were subjected to medicinal "torture" in the name of advancing knowledge. Also thankyou to all the lives sacrificed so we could find out smoking wasn't actually good for health or asbestos was not such a great idea or lead was toxic or thalidimide was a total cock up and don't even get me started on the latest thinking carbs no carbs diets etc so on and so forth..... Fact:science gets it wrong sometimes.

Absolute blind faith in anything and everything called science could be classed as an "ism" but I think anything has the potential to become an "ism."

You are essentially leading a split life this will produce inner conflict that's normal. I think we are happiest if there is as little gap between our internal world and our external world as possible. That takes time.

When You See a JW Do You Get Flustered?

The JWdot borg enjoy charity (tax exempt status) because of their "volunteer " work aka cart and door to door palming off their "literacy aids" and website ads, of course WT benefits from this work.

How are you supposed to "approach them " if you cannot find them? The only carts I've come across they stand so far away from the carts you wouldn't know who to approach.

As an ex jw I can peg them by their dress but the general public would have trouble playing spot the witness or "where's wally witness" in a crowd of shoppers.

I was in different state to where I live recently and there were two carts seemingly "abandoned" at the entrance to the largest mall in the city. I approached to see what would happen. I stood there picking up bits of paper reading bits and pieces of literature and putting it down again, the old couple who had parked themselves under a tree (I can always spot the dubs by their 1980/90s fashion sense a mile off) quite a way off just sat there watching me. I lingered longer testing how long it would take for one of them to get up and give a shit, after about 5 minutes the woman stood up very slowly and just stood there watching me some more and I placed the mags back and walked off she seemed relieved and sat back down.

I clocked it - 6min.

Has Anyone Ever Just Gotten Mad and "Popped" an Elder?

people get stressed out, an elder or overseer takes just two steps over the line and gets a fat lip for his trouble.. does that ever happen?

or maybe someone "counsels" a brother at the wrong time and tempers flare at the old kingdom hall?.

What elders are trained to do is basically stalking if some stranger was doing this you would call the police but if it's an elder it's "christian love, shepherding" that there be some seriously f***ed up reasoning.

Why do otherwise "intelligent" men put themselves in that postion for this damn cult. The cult sure as hell doesn't help them if they get punched in the face, or bitten by a dog, or their kid gets molested by a creep in the cong.

The GB changed the definition of love (to mean "obey obey obey") for their adherents a long time ago.

As dubstepped said, what JWs practice is narcissistic control and co-dependency - not love.

Apologists saying that the JWs shouldn't be banned, what the hell!??

it's been brought to my attention that there are xjw that say they support the witnesses and don't think russia should ban them.

i would just like to remind all of you that jws are guilty of murder, causing higher rates of suicide, covering up child molestation, and keeping members in prisoned because if they leave they loose family, financial support, possible employment etc.. sure their not strapping bombs to their chests but they easily get members to kill themselves with their blood policies.

they are an extremist group!

I don't feel the current crop of JWs would become "strengthened" by the inconvenience of a ban I think they would find it exciting for a little while but I also think for the majority it would get old fast and they would start to lose interest in the mini-dramas of the WT and just get on with their lives.

The majority of JWs are not die-hards anymore they have a very tenuous grasp on their religions policies, doctrines and meaning. Most would fold under the slightest persistent pressure.

why do religions enjoy shunning.

because many people feel like being close to god makes them special however just being special is not enough for many religious people that shun they must feel extra special how?

Shunning used as official discipline for breaking the rules is what cults do as part of their information control policy to keep people under the thumb.

Deciding personally to not hang out with a certain individual for whatever reason is personal choice.
