and the problem of lacking self-control is worsening.
self-discipline was studied in the 1940’s, but recent studies have shown that people have become much worse at exercising self-discipline.

Interesting. If I run that phrase through my JWborg doublespeak translator one of the alternative phrases is self-control = obedience to WT.
Well that makes much more sense as there are all those JWs willfully not donating, slackening off from their meeting attendance, thinking their own thoughts, visiting apostate websites, sueing the WT, protesting against the WT, the list goes on and on what more proof do they need of lack of obedience oops I mean "self-control."

eve to the snake, and adam to eve.... does that sound familiar??.

This is one of the traits of a narcissist - they are never wrong. That's why people often don't readily identify the JW religion to be a cult because since the days of Russell and Rutherford there hasn't been any one charismatic leader to point to and say "he claims to be God's spokeperson, do not question him, he is never wrong, he never apologizes..." etc etc all the things you would expect to be said of the religious narcissist cult leader.
"The Society" does display all the traits of a narcissist and a cult leader in bucket loads they're just careful to do so collectively. I call it the "I am Sparticus" defense because there is no one person to identify as "Sparticus" they're all Sparticus and so in effect none of them are Sparticus.

Why I get out of bed every morning.
by compound complex inbecause someone needs my help.. as a jw -- you can relate -- i truly believed that what everyone really needed was the kingdom hope and its eventual reality.
you know, the hope that does not lead to disappointment.
of course, if anyone needed practical help with a task or getting through some difficulty, most of us realized that was part of being a helpful and caring friend (or family member).. at nearly seventy years of age -- no, i didn't enter the promised kingdom in my healthful and vibrant youth -- my getting out of bed isn't so bad.

All WT crap aside, a few simple words of encouragement, support and appreciation can be all that's needed to regain some sense of purpose, balance and worth. You do this everyday CoCO I'm sure of it, so thank you sir.
Appreciation; it costs nothing folks but it can pull someone back from the brink.
