How Would You Console A Witness Who Has Lost A Loved One?
by minimus inlet’s say that you haven’t been around a kingdom hall in years and everyone knows you are not a “true believer “ anymore.
yet a tragedy strikes and you want to give a real heartfelt expression of your feelings— what would you say?
would you acknowledge the resurrection hope that the witnesses entertain or say something very different?.

Witnesses and grief ugh!
I have broken one of the rules of witness club on several occasions by telling grieving witnesses not to listen to other bros and sis's who told them to "move on" etc etc. I have said they can talk for as long and as often as they want to me about their dead loved ones as it was normal and natural to do so.
When I ran into an older sister in the supermarket that had lost her grandaughter who was only ten kept apologizing for talking about her funny memories of her and felt other witnesses had forgotten her and moved on so she should too, I said to her straight up "why would you ever want to, if she's in Jehovah's memory then why shouldn't she in yours too."
I'll never forget the way she just went silent for a second or two and then her whole face lit up because I had given her permission to speak of her granddaughter freely. She was so happy and relieved she couldn't stop saying how genuinely good it was to see me when I said my goodbyes.

JC letter of invitation. Do they always get signed?
by StarTrekAngel ini was just shown a jc letter from a friend and i noticed that the bottom of it was signed by tree elders.
the letter specifically stated that it was an invitation to a "judicial committee" due to the brother having a marital relationship that was not aligned with bible principles.. i am asking because i remember reading experiences of brothers who demanded their jc be arranged over certified mail with signed letters to which elders refused to do.
since they could not get this done the matter was dropped and no dfing ever happened.

Haven't heard anything bout the JC by mail thing but a brilliant idea!
Sorry but something in your post caught my eye, are "tree elders" any different ground elders, lol.
A very Freudian typo BTW as there are tree snakes and ground snakes.

JW Broadcasting: Russian Convention Travel Report w/Mark Sanderson
by pale.emperor inhttps://tv.jw.org/#en/mediaitems/latestvideos/pub-jwb_201709_12_video.
a few things about this video:.
it's very nice that they managed to host a convention for the russian brothers and sisters, and that they all got fed.

From Russia with no love!
Although, they all look pretty happy to be "persecuted."

The value in these types of shows is they open the eyes of the general public to the fact that these religions are not as benign or harmless as they might think are and to give a voice to the individuals and families who have been burned by them.
They serve as a warning to the public rather than a wake up call to members. If they turn the heat up and the spotlight on the harmful practices of the group it's served purpose ie warning the avergage punter to steer clear and also alerts people like teachers, drs, lawyers, counselors who have to deal with JWs. If activism is only ever directed towards the indoctrinated themselves we 'll never get anywhere.

Maybe if a smart sassy non-JW with no JW family handles an expose of the borg she won't be hampered by a fear of upsetting them or triggering their "persecution complex" which seems to plague many a ex-jw.

Do they have a desk for everything but child abuse reporting, quote verification and fact checking at Bethel?

The wonder of scientific research
by amicabl inthis has possibly been brought up before however here goes.. constant reference is made by many posters to scientific research as being the only way to prove something factual that would otherwise have to be taken on faith.
there actually seems to be "faith" in scientific findings.. my experience over many years is that most scientific research is fake.
nothing oftencomes of the big announcements made to raise more money.. money, prestige, pride, human error, suppositions etc., are rife amongst the scientific community.. i realise that there have been many advances over hundreds of years but humankind is in a mess, although very different to even a century ago.. the medical profession now has vaccinations for everything, antiviral drugs etc.

Amicabl - You seem like a nice enough guy, welcome to the forum. Don't let the critiques and objections put you off view it as a challenge.
