@Vidiot - "if the sanctioning of genocide..........is what one requires to deserve salvation, I'll pass, thanks."
xactly!
this week's book study contains this gem:.
the way in which the bible is written serves to test what is in our heart.
hebrews 4:12 says: the word [or, message] of god is alive and exerts power and is sharper than any two-edged sword and pierces even to the dividing of soul and spirit .

with all the jehovah's witnesses child abuse scandals being reported on by the media around the world at the moment what were the governing body of jehovah's witnesses thinking?.

.
so, back when you were still in, or even now (for those still in), how do you respond when the elders ask to speak with you in the back room?
I'm not at meetings anymore, but there have been several unannounced home visits asking for a "chat". I just decline politely by saying
" oh, thanks for thinking of me, but that wont be necessary, maybe I could come by and have a coffee with you at your place......"
I haven't heard from that elder since then.
well, it's finally happened!.
im no longer an ms.. as many would know from our chats via this forum, i've seen it coming for a while....and while the way it was done stinks, i'm really happy to finally be free!.
(would love to share more details...i will do in time...or perhaps a pm would be best).
They didn't deserve you anyway stuck.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.
so after nearly 15 to 19 years of not attending a convention, i can't recall exactly, i went to one last year.
the brother giving the talk was from bethel and was introduced as a helper of the governing body.
it was a title i never heard of before.
in other words, is it true that the watchtower is just like other religions when it comes to cover-ups?.
from personal experience (with incest and doctrinal/financial fraud) in the watchtower i would say so.. especially when i compare stories like the one i read today:.
"its impossible to know how many women have been raped by jewish men.
There were cover ups in my hall too. And yes the elders went around personally silencing the whistle blowers,
with ultimatums of recant or suffer the consequences. How any man with a working conscience can remain an elder is beyond me.

Typical, if you refuse to join in the chorus of "yay, Jehovah killed all those faithless assholes" then YOU are the one with a bad heart.
i have written a blog post about the dubs and their scorn of modern medicine and rasputin, while simultaneously touting unproven, dangerous cures.. i wonder what it is about a fake remedy that makes jws believe in it or scorn it?.
There is a very scary sister in the cong I was attending who would drink small amounts of hydrogen peroxide for five days, every month, to "cleanse" her system. She would look very weak, pale and unwell during this time and would make a big show of it, claiming that "you have to feel worse for a while in order to get the benefits" . She strongly recommended this and many other kooky home remedies, even recommending people give up all their prescritpion meds. She had quite a following amongst the hypochondriacs. She is an elder's wife.
IMO this woman is dangerous.
last week we had an elder giving a talk, cant remember the title.. the thing that was of interest is the experience he gave:.
"a brother who was working in a hospital had to leave his job which was paying him good money because the nurses wanted to sleep with him and they kept putting notes for him on his desk!".
this is not the first time i hear similar experience.
How do they get these 50 shades of BS stories?
Is there a forum section in the mags now.
another good codinghorror blog entry perfectly describes some people's online behaviour and an approach to handling it.
i'll post part of it below but to summarize, these tend to be behaviours that don't violate any specific rules as such as the people doing it try to carefully skate just up to the line but they are nevertheless disruptive and we're not going to tolerate them on this site.
if you are here to do these things then this isn't the site for you - move along, find someplace else on the internet to inhabit.. hate is easy to recognize.
