Gadget -- I agree with your reasoning. This sick man should have been in a mental institute, and not a prison. Yes, he was a sick bastard, but it would be better if he had lived so that we could fully study this man's background, experiences, and his mental thought process in order to determine how this sick sick sick individual was created. By doing so, perhaps we can learn how to prevent the birth and creation of future child molesters. Throwing them in prison, and/or executing them will do nothing to protect our children in the future.

Why should I be Happy?

i love my job, still some days are just great, and today was one of those days!

all day i was in a great mood and working like a bi-polar in a manic state.

Yes, thank goodness for those wonderful "worldly" family members who reached out to help you when you needed it most (something the duds know nothing about) and who have stood by you. It is the true meaning of love.

Speaking from experience, you'll probably "shake the tightness in your chest" 4 months after the bar exam (when the results are finally in). That is, of course, assuming that you passed. Best of luck.

Mom initiates contact

i adore my mother, she has but one flaw...and, well, that is the story of my life.

when i quit jws cold turkey at the tender age of 19, i was still living at home, with her and my dad (the long-suffering unbelieving mate).

this enabled my mother to still have her only daughter and youngest born in her life, with little hassle from anyone.

La Capra-- I am happy for you and I understand what a grand sense of joy you must be experiencing now that your mother is iniating contact with you. I am on the flip side of a scenario similiar to yours: I left the cult long ago but two of my children are still held captive. My third child is not a JW, and, the way things stand now, it's as though I only have one child (the other two are into shunning and do not contact me at all). It is a sad state of affairs and I miss these children of mine who are missing-in-action. The only thing standing between us, and the force that keeps us apart, is this insane religion. It is a force that tears families apart and causes such unnecessary grief. Those of us who have been inside this bizarre organization know that the religion itself is full of hate and repression. Res ipsa loquitur -- the thing speaks for itself.

Bush's favorite Supreme Court Justices are Rendquist and Thomas -- who are about as far to the right as you can get. But one of Bush's nominees to the federal bench is even further to the right - if that's possible- and she is: Priscilla Owen. As a current Texas Supreme Court justice, she consistently votes AGAINST any decision in favor of workers, women's rights, small businesses, families, and consumers. Bush nominated her to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals [stepping stone to the Supreme Court] even though she had almost no experience in the appellate courts -- but she did have lots of OIL and GAS experience, and she's a religious zealot to boot. Big business is her name and screwing the little people is her game (no doubt "Kenny boy" loves her too).

Senator Leahy (VT) describes her as follows:

"...her record shows that in case after case involving a variety of legal issues, she is a judicial activist, willing to make law from the bench rather than follow the language and intent of the legislature. Her record of activism shows she is willing to adapt the law to her results-oriented ideological agenda."

So far the democrats have kept her out by filibuster [note: Democrats have stopped two of President Bush's nominees, Republicans stopped 66 of President Clinton's.].

For those who are concerned with individual liberties, making a decent wage, the right to address grievances in a court of law, freedom of choice, etc., please let your elected representative know that you do not want these type of judicial activists sitting on our federal courts.

it has been a while since i posted for advice but i haven't had a cig now in 6 weeks.

the best advice has been just to recognise that i had a problen -that i was dependant rather than just not thinking about it.

Be wise -- congrats and I have some advice (it worked for me) and it is guaranteed to work. Here is it:

"DON'T EVER TAKE THE FIRST ONE"

Seriously, if you just follow this advice, you never have to worry about getting hooked (or re-hooked) again!

My JW Grandmother died

well my jw grandmother died...am i sad ?

i do have to wonder if she is not facing jesu right now and being shamed for all the hate towards her grand children simply because they were not jw.

i only had a realtionship with her for about a year and it was only for short moments on the phone if i had happened to be over at my mothers when she called my mom.

I guess thats why I never did get baptised because I am just not one to let my mind go so freely to just anyone.....

KGB -- I think it is more complicated than you indicate. JWs move in and overtake their prey just like trained experts (parasites). They "target" individuals who are down, have emotional problems, those who are lonely, abused, isolated from family and friends, etc. They extend (fake) friendship and loving attentativeness (contrived) to these wretched souls, and slowly pull them in. Prospective JWs more or less get "reeled in" slowly, and without even noticing they are giving up their autonomy. So, as for giving one's mind over, I don't think there is anything "free" about the whole process. Of course, there may be some who eagerly "let their minds go freely" but I would argue that the vast majority of recruits are just slowly sucked in. And the brain shuts down. Period.

All that being said, I am sorry you lost your grandmother.... and I'm even sorrier that the "borg barrier" prevented her from showing you the love that every grandchild needs and deserves.
