  the latest controversy over the confederate flag just sums up to me the state of dysfunction that exists in american society.. in summary: a white supremacist nutter shoots 9 black people dead in a church.

  he's clearly inspired by the messages of others which the confederate flag is often a symbol of.. it seems like a no-brainer to remove it.

  not only isn't it removed, it isn't even lowered at all as a mark of respect.. and of course now there are the people who want to defend their right to have it.

  Causes of the woes you mentioned faced by contemporary human society are much, much bigger and more complex than skin color.

  Marvin, I have always liked your work, but you are being a little naive here- We have in America, something called "black solidarity"- it's approved! Society has worked very hard to eliminate "white solidarity", but has been reluctant to dismantle black solidarity, even when it is hurting the black community. . Society is paying a price for that. Like, Snitches get Stiches- which in the ghetto means- even, if a black gangbanger kills a 5 yr old black child and you saw me shoot him, you can't rat me out to the white police- so keep quiet or I'll come after you, too. Black criminals have a free reign in the gehtto and a white policeman is persona non grata in the hood.

  Removing the flag from American consciousness is not going to end the plague of racism.

  Racism goes both ways, but you wouldn't know about the plague of black on white knockout game attacks

  (some have been fatal) from watching/reading the mainstream news media.- gotta love that plague word- it's great.
  

  We have an African American President, African Americans make huge contributions to American society in science, education and the arts.

  I think "huge" is hyperbole- look at the nobel prize winners- the blacks have been given a lot of peace prizes, but I think, none, in hard sciences= that takes individual hard work. Now, if we are talking about Jews, then huge would be a fitting adverb.

  FYI, even if you have valid points, using WND as a source just makes you look utterly looney.

  I suppose, you have been following the news about Hillary Clinton's upcoming Rico lawsuit in Florida ( 2 weeks in January)

  on NBC news? -- go ahead google Hillary Clinton on google news-- you'll see there is no mention of a Rico trial concerning the the Clinton foundation in over 10 pages of google search results-- but just add the word "rico" to her name on a google news search and then you can find out about it. Many educated people would rather be ignorant about this stuff, than have an honest major news media.

  Even the National Enquirer can be right before the mainstream media-- they pay reporters to go out and investigate, instead of just using government issued talking points.

  Unfortunately Simon, what you said about the Confederate Flag, also applies to the current flag- Afghanistan and Iraq being notable examples of failed wars and America's desire to force our ideas of democracy on other cultures.

  The president of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis was never convicted of any crime and all charges were abandoned years later, when the Federal government could not prove their charges in a court of law. This information is not found in regular school history books, either. I'm a born yankee, but facts are facts. It was technically legal for them to succeed from the union, but Lincoln started a war. I believe a new Washington DC corporate UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION ( all caps- different from the original one) enacted about 10 years after the Civil war has closed that loophole.
  

  The Charleston shooter, Dylann Roof, had been arrested months earlier and was caught with powerful prescription drugs-- drugs that can cause a person to act out violently.

  Many of the mass killers have that in common- using psychiatric drugs with known violent side effects- this doesn't fit the liberal media playbook, so you must dig for that info, Simon. had he not been using those drugs, it is very likely there would have been no mass murder-- big pharma has major blame here, IMO.

  Where are the Young Elders?

  i was appointed as an elder when i turned 30, 25 years ago.

  which was the norm back then.. now, i very rarely here of a young man becoming an elder.

  in our town we have 2 english congregations.

  I forgot to mention it was late 1975 when Jehoovers holy ghost picked me to be an elder at age 25 or so.

  Funny, the local elder body ( roofer, carpenter, cement mason, carpet cleaner, etc) asked me if there was anything that could keep me from being appointed an elder- I said No (haha), expecting jehoover to know better - NOT. I later learned it's pretty much a rubber stamp process by the CO.
  

  It all went downhill after that.-

  there is a video (one of so many) shaming young people for being afraid to admit they are jw's.

  one australian girl talks about how one of her teachers was saying jw's let their children die over the blood issue (fact) and she goes on to say how that is not true.

  Now I know why my comments at the hotel full of JWs last Sunday morning ( at breakfast) about, 1914 to 2014 - 100 yrs and nothing has happened , yet-- and blood transfusions seemed to hit them hard. They were all pretty much choked up and unable to say a word as I hammered away at them.

  i'm reading a very interesting book right now "your god is too small" by the atheist republic.

  it makes the point that there are two creation accounts in the bible!.

  in one humans are created after the animals in the second humans are created before the animals.

  I had a 30 minute discussion with Mormon missionary lads about Genesis ( and other points) 2x this year. I explained to them that Genesis is a metaphor, not literal fact. They really don't think about stuff- perhaps more so than JWs, IMO.
  

  the last story I always leave Mormons with--

  2 LDS missionaries meet 2 Jws on the sidewalk-- each unsuccessfully tries to persuade the other that they have the "truth"

  There are 3 three possible choices- do you know what they are? pause-

  #1- the JWs are right and Mormons are wrong

  #2- The Mormons are right and JWs are wrong

  #3- do you know what #3 is? ( they usually act dumb, so I have to tell them)

  Its, they are both wrong! Neither one has the truth!
  

  Man does that go over like a lead balloon- but they need to think about that possibility.

  I was appointed an elder at age 26, and about 2 years later I stepped down. I had seen enough of jehoovers guiding hand. Once burned, always burned. To this day, I am loathe to do volunteer work in my place of worship. I will help out for a one time task, but steadfastly refuse to be nominated for any position that requires responsibility and attendance at monthly meetings.

  if you had any doubts about the pitifully poor mental prowess of watchtower and jws in general then i'm sure this week's watchtower study (week of june 15-21, 2015) completely obliterated such doubts.

  the study article (watchtower april 15, 2015, page 19: how real is your relationship with jehovah?

  ) was filled with blatantly fallacious reasoning that were outdone only by the more fallacious reasoning on the part of commenting jws.. the article, in paragraph 2, says this about a relationship with jehovah:.

  I read a story some years ago that said the statistics from 2009-2010, showed religious church going people suffered the same amount of job loss, unemployment and foreclosure as nonreligious people.

  this is the story I tell-

  100 people are diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and all 100 pray for a healing.

  25 people go into remission and 75 people die.

  the 25 who live, tell everyone that god answered their prayers, but the 75 who are dead, can't tell anyone that prayer does not work. The moral is, prayer that doesn't work is under reported.
