Can god see into the future?

this is something that's been bothering me for a while.. if god could see into the future, why has he allowed so many bad things to happen?

for example in the garden of eden.

he should have known from the beginning what would happen.if there was even the tiniest chance that they'd eat the fruit then god obviously didn't think it would be benefical to, idk, prevent it from happening?

Nvr2l8 that's so true. Some "heavenly father". Can't be bothered to move a freaking fruit tree out of the middle of a garden. Well I guess it's ok seeing as how he didn't make some un-breakable universal law that makes it so that the children of imperfect people are imperfect and have no chance of living forever. Oh wait, that's what someone with a normal functioning brain would do, forgot we were talking about Jehovah here.

Kate you're right. One of the things that made me not want to believe in the bible and by extension not be a jw was that the god of the bible just seems like what I guess American kids my age would call a d-bag.

I'm gonna be honest and say that every time I do think to myself about whether or not I believe in a creator my laziness kicks I'm and I just ignore it. I don't believe that god would care about humans and definitely wouldn't use other humans to deliver "his" message and allow it to get twisted this much. Since I have literally no idea how the universe came about I don't really think I can say whether or not God created it.

That's a fair point but does god not want to stop bad things from happening before they happen then or does he just prefer to clean up after the sh*t hits the fan

This is something that's been bothering me for a while.

If god could see into the future, why has he allowed so many bad things to happen? For example in the garden of eden. He should have known from the beginning what would happen.If there was even the tiniest chance that they'd eat the fruit then god obviously didn't think it would be benefical to, idk, prevent it from happening? Especially since he would have been able to see all the sufferring that would come as a result of it. I've been told that it was because of our "free will" or something but that raises a whole load of other problems.

If free will prevents god from being able to see what we are about to do or what could happen in the future then that just means god isn't as all-powerful as they say. Also, how could god prophecy things if there anything could happen because of our free will. Didn't god allegedly predict that the Babylonian Empire's (I think it was) conqueror's name before he was even born? How does that work unless:

1.god is one hell of a guesser

2.god knew exactly how things would play out (which means he could have stopped Adam and eve. Or at least make it so that sin wasn't inherited)

3.god influenced Cyrus' parents into giving him that name to fit with his prophecy. (But refused to influence hitler for example into not starting the holocaust)

happy to hear anyone's responses if they can explain or if they've found the same thing

Life for me as a jw (not really) teenager

hey i joined this thread recently and thought this was a good way to introduce myself.

i am 15, still going to school and i live in the uk.

a good chunk of my mum's side of the family are jws.

I always have to stop myself from laughing whenever they call themselves sheep at the kh. I think it's what my English teacher would call dramatic irony.

I mean someone in the writing department must know about this right? If there's anything that Animal Farm taught us was that being a sheep isn't a complement.

say you were baptised and stopped going to the meetings, when the elders and people ask why can you just say you don't want to be a jw anymore without giving a reason?

i mean it's not like they can force it out of you and you aren't necessarily spreading lies or whatever they say apostates do.. if anything they'll have to keep talking to you to find an actual reason to df you so if you're literally as vague as possible then what basis do they have?

Well that's another thing, why does your reason for "denying god" really matter. Either you are or you aren't. And I don't see why the elders even need to know anything else.

Jgnat I have a few friends i talk to about this stuff and this whole thing could have been over like two weeks ago but they can't take no for an answer

jwdaughter I don't wanna get my dad involved for one reason. The people in my kingdom hall like to jump to conclusions. remember that guy I said that my mum invited over change my mind? He wouldn't stop going on about me being able to "answer up in class", as if I was being peer pressured into beliving in evolution and couldn't possibly arrive at the conclusion on my own. If my dad starts backing me then they'll think I'm being pressured and be even more patronising than they are now. I already get more than enough "young ones-stand up for your faith" bs tbh.

"Worldly" Friends vs "True" Friends

hey guys i am new to the whole forum thing (long time reader, first time postererer) and i wanted to get some other opinions on something that has bothered me ever since i first became a jehovah's witness.. i was always taught at the kingdom hall that friends inside the orginisation were the only ones i could count on and that the ones out of it (mainly at school) were just being controlled by satan to trick me into leaving the religion.. however, i always found it to be the opposite.

my "worldly"friends were all accepting of my religion (back when i was ok with being a jw) and are the only ones i have really opened up to about wanting to leave.

the only things i have in common with the other teenagers in my hall (3 boys, 3 girls) are that we've all been raised in the truth and... well that's it.. i was just wondering if anyone else found the same thing when they were a teenaged jw or if anyone still in my age finds the same thing..

You know I've been going to school with "worldly" people for quite a while now and I have never been offered a cigarette but the ypa books and stuff make it seem as if that's all people do.

Is it me or are they trying to scare the parents more than anything else?
