From the July 8, 2007 Watchtower article "Righteous Requirements":
How could there be a July 8, 2007, WT? Did I read it too fast? Was it a spoof?

Was that a precursor to the kingdom ministry?
Yes it was the precursor. It was called the Informant when I started attending back in 1955. Not sure of the date, but it must have been the late 50's when it changed.

I still am amazed at how Ray Franz was able to break away and keep his sanity.

Recent Talk by CO
by restrangled inmy uncle just informed me that a talk given 2 months ago "obedience or innovation" by the co sent chills up his spine.
this talk is apparently making the rounds delivered by all co's and is part of what seems to be a get in or be shunned renewed effort.
it is the same talk that apparently sent my mom over the edge with me after 30 years out.

I am now beyond angry over this due to my taking care of my parents. I will not go into this here but the Bullshit Society demands adherence no matter what. I am just waiting to hear that my father's savings and hard work were all given to the Society.
Restrangled - I can really relate to this. I spent years taking care of my parents--especially my mother who suffered from severe Alzheimers. Together my Dad and I took care of her in the home. I can't tell you how difficult. During this time, between working full-time and other family issues, I found I could no longer go to all the meetings. Gradually, I stopped altogether. After my mother's death, all of a sudden all my caring didn't matter. My daughter, my brother, and some of my cousins suddently came to my father's aid to protect him from his daughter. To make a long story short, they talked him into turning his entire estate over to my daughter and I still haven't found out what kind of a "deal" has been made with my brother and my new son-in-law. I am an outsider. Where were all these people when I needed help taking care of mother? Why has my father apparently completely forgotten all the hours I spent in his house bathing, nursing and taking care of soiled linens and diapers? Dad is now in an assisted care facility, and somehow I have found the strength to go visit him twice a week. I even take him to an occasional meeting. Don't know why. Nobody else does, but I live the closest. I still can't believe how he betrayed me. I really hope my father lives a long long life and uses up every penny he ever had in nursing care.

Does anybody remember a horrible tornado that hit Elkhart, Indiana, probably in the 1960's. Don't think it was in the 1970's or I would have been able to find it on the CD Rom. As I remember it, there were witnesses who lived in a trailer park who were killed. They were not at the meeting that day and it was implied, or at least I got the idea that if they had been at the Kingdom Hall that day they would have been protected.

Why call themselves "Christian"?
by poppers innever having been a jw i don't quite understand why they call themselves "christians".
if jesus is not god and is not to be worshipped as such, but is something "lesser", then it doesn't make sense to think of themselves as christians.
to claim to be christian, then, seems to me to make themselves hypocrites from the very beginning.

The Witnesses told me they are "Christian" because they do as Jesus did, that is, go door to door and solicit
Where does the Bible say Jesus went from door to door?
