I used to go out a lot with an older brother and sister in our congregation--I just loved that couple. They didn't usually feel like doing door to door, so they would concentrate on Return Visits. They also got to know where all my RV's were too. Our congregation territory was pretty scattered, so we did a lot of driving. It got so I didn't even have to tell the brother where to go. He knew where to go. I would jest that he was on auto-pilot. They also liked a long coffee break, so the morning was usually quite pleasant. Didn't always get into his group, however, and those mornings were not so happy.

I agree that occasionally there are some acts of charity and kindness within the congregation. However, my take on that is: When it does happen, it is NOT because of the organization but DESPITE the organization.

There is no organized effort in the congregations to come to the fianancial add of the members who have a need.
There is also no organized effort to even come to the spirititual aid of members who have outlived their usefulness in the congregation. I found that out with my parents.

By what age can a child be indoctrinated?
by jwfacts inmy step daughter went to the memorial, which is her first meeting in many months.
a 7 year old girl came up to her and asked if she is baptised and when will she get baptised.. my sister has a 4 year old daughter.
when she was introduced to another 4 year old one question she asked was "does he love jehovah.".

I remember a service meeting where the elder had a few children on the platform and asked them what they were going to do after they graduated. Obviously it wasn't rehearsed very well because one said he'd like to be a doctor. The elder looked a bit embarrassed, and then the child came back with, "Well I'd really like to go to Bethel."

"Bad" songs at JW weddings
by B_Deserter inwhen i was in my teens, jw weddings were quite the social affair.
of course, the music was strictly regulated by the elders.
somehow though, in each wedding, someone managed to get the song "you shook me all night long" by ac/dc into the dj's rotation, and all of the "bad" witnesses would have a blast dancing to it.

I used to play the piano for all the weddings. In the late 50's I actually played, "Here Comes the Bride" at the Kingdom Hall. Only one person, an elder's wife, made any comment about it.

Did anyone see this last night? Just incredible! A semi-truck slammed into a van killing 5 passengers. Two of the girls resembled one another, and the wrong girl was pronounced dead. The other girl was in a coma, and the wrong set of parents and siblings spent five weeks at her bedside in the hospital before the error was discovered. The other parents thought they were burying their daughter (1500 people attended the funeral), only to discover she was still alive. After two years, she is back to normal.
The story ended with the families united in their grief and in their love. It was soooo touching....

About 43+ years. Started going to meetings in 1955, baptized in 1956, and started questioning in 1998. However, because of family pressures (my father and daughter), I continued spasmodically until 2006--that would be 53 years. (Fading didn't work. My relationship with them fell apart anyway.) So many years wasted.....
