  how long will religions claiming to worship god - tolerate the abuse of children , and try to hide it ?

  catholics, jehovah's witnesses, mormons - my wife and i discussed it and i'm starting to feel that there is something about the stunted views of religions about sex in general that creates these monsters of sexual child abuse !

  do we not just hear about the non-religious child abusers ?

  Clyde and I are being visited occasionally by two Mormom "sisters." We'll probably let them step inside one more time. I know they will tell us that they have nothing to do with the FLDS, that it was a break-away group. They will remind us that their church hasn't practiced polygamy for something like 100 years.

  However, since our last visit, I checked the Internet and found that their founder, Joseph Smith, had 33 wives, many of them as young as 14. First I will ask them how God could use a man like this to write down "additional" inspired writings, the Book of Mormon. Second, I will ask if they don't think that this FLDS group is emulating the example of Joseph Smith.

  I wonder if they will deny that these women were actually his wives in a carnal sense.

  Anybody think of additional questions? BTW, their next visit will be their last.

  it looks like there is a pattern of a major cutback every year or so for the past several years.

  from soft cover binding, no more subscriptions, 30 min public talks, members only wt magazine, book study meeting elimination.

  maybe i missed some others.

  If The Society REALLY Cared About Gas Prices They'd Implement Program Now!

  they are full of sh*t!

  if i were a practicing jehovah's witness, i'd seriously take the governing body's words to heart immediately.

  since they don't want to add any further burdens on us, i would not "wait on jehovah (them)" but instead i'd follow the spirit of their timely words and cut out one more meeting night and save gas money!

  One of Clyde's friends mentioned that there was a lot of talk after the announcement. Surprisingly, a few people asked why it wasn't being implemented now if it was supposed to help save money on gas. That surprises me that anybody would dare to ask questions since the WT study was about being "yielding."

  Older generation JW's are being sacrificed by the Society? Why?

  what has changed in the last few years?.

  cheap paperback books.15 minute rule.reduced pioneer requirements.public/private watchtoweronly one pair of mags to public per month.doctrinal changes re 'generation', 1935 etcpublic talk cut to 30 minutes.and now the book study kicked into the long grass.this is an organisation that, since the big 1995 'generation change', is clearly slimming down and planning it's future srategy.

  real estate is being sold and essential operations are being relocated to more cost efficient locations.

  But, as far as their 'new light' is concerned, they prefer younger people because they don't remember all the past prophecies and the presumptuous talk that went on. So, older people would threaten them more.

  Most of the older should remember but they don't. As a poster once said, "The rank and file are infected by a disease called collective amnesia."

  Question: When did the Book Study arrangement begin ?

  we were having a discussion about this last evening and we couldn't seem to find the answer.

  i checked several pulblications to no avail.

  i see a lot of info regarding the tms and sm but not the book study.. does anyone know what year the book study arrangement (formally) began.?.

  I remember when we were not given an assignment of how much material was to be covered each week during the book study. The Society just told us what book we were to use and when to start using it and when we were to start the next book. Since we were often a little slow, we sometimes didn't have it all covered before we had to start a new book.

  Do good works by JWs count for anything?

  we all know that the wts like so many other cults is an exploitative organisation that works with a great depth of deception that's not easy for many to grasp.

  but will the works done by jws for this religion count in their favour if they were done in good faith?

  at least the ones that didn't directly harm anyone?

  I was visited by the elders when my service time dropped off to zero. I explained that besides having to work full time, the rest of my time was taken up in the care of my elderly JW mother who was wheelchair confined and suffering from severe Alzheimers. The elder kindly explained that that was all well and good, but that I should remember that there are people out in the territory who have "no hope." We need to be calling on those people. It was hard to keep from smacking that guy in the face. I should have said, "Well both my father and mother sit in their living room day after day 'hoping' that somebody from the congregation will stop by and visit."

  That visit clinched my exit from the Borg.

  What are you guys talking about? We never had a book study on Tuesday night. We've always had the three meetings combined. Back in 1975 there was some idle talk in newspapers about the possibility of having three meetings a week (which you cannot believe, of course, and it might have been on the Internet which you also cannot believe, of course) and some people thought that proved that Armageddon was near. We've never had a book study, it's always been a Bible study followed by studies of the Watchtower publications for about the same length of time, of course, because it is equal to the Bible and written by the same Holy Spirit. It's always been this way. This is just another example of the loving provision of the Faithful and Discreet Slave. How else will we get the "new" scrolls? - Revelation 20:12. The scrolls we have been using were supplied by Scott Paper Company.

  Gotta run now--have to go the store--need more Koolaid.

  New announcement from the 1st time zone in the world.

  just got back from the assembly the bookstudy will be part of the ministry school service metting as of 2009. the cost of fuel is 1 reason.

  to many elders taking bookstudys time could be better spent on other things.

  family heads can now spend more time with there familys.

  Clyde thinks that there will be more pressure on family heads to have a regular family Bible study--with the idea that it will help prevent so many of the young ones from leaving.

  Elderly parents and the Book Study

  do any of you have elderly jw parents?

  my mom is 89, good health and very active jw.

  her world is the local congergation and 5meeting per week.she has her sunday outfits, tues, school dress, and thurs afternoon more casual styles.

  Hey - the congregations could use the extra time to organize visitations to the nursing homes, helping the needy, and the sick. Oh that's right, we wouldn't want to do that...we don't want to imitate the churches, do we?

  The elders have pretty much left us alone lately. The last couple of times that we met with them we were very polite and nodded and smiled. However, one of Clyde's good friends has "leaked out" that Clyde has friends in high places, implying that he has some powerful attorney friends. We haven't had a visit for about six years.
