  We've heard plenty of JW urban legends like where angels protected that sister who called on a guy who had just murdered the Avon lady. This gives the impression that Jehovah will protect you while out in Service.

  These are not just JW urban legends. I got an email the other day from a non-jw friend with the story about a little girl walking home from her friends house--decided to take a shortcut through an alley. Then she saw a man standing at the end of the alley as if he was waiting for her. She became uneasy and started to pray for God to protect her. When she arrived at the end of the alley, she walked right past the man and arrived home safely.

  The following day she read in the newspaer that a young girl had been raped in the same alley just twenty minutes after she had been there. She decided to go to the police station, and they asked if she would be willing to look at a lineup to see if she could recognize the man and identify him. She was able to point to the man and identify him. The man then broke down and confessed. The police asked him why he had not attacked this little girl. He answered, "Because she wasn't alone. There were two tall men walking on either side of her."

  My friend who sent the email said this story gave her goose bumps. I don't know if I have the heart to tell her that I've heard several versions of this story over the last 50 years, and it wasn't always from the JW's.

  This is really more brazen than usual. They used to say the faithful and discreet slave discerns the truth. Now it's the "responsible representatives of the FDS at world headquarters" who discern the truth. It's their way of distancing themselves from those in the congregations who are partaking and who just might be faking it.

  How much truth is there in this? Was his "unjust" imprisonment really the reason he had only one good lung?

  Baby(ies) Died From Heat At Convention?

  i recall reading from one source how babies were overcome by the heat at a jw convention, with at least one death.. if i'm not mistaken, this was in houston, texas, at the astrodome.. the story goes that doctors at the convention wanted an advisory about the heat read from the platform, but convention officials refused, stating that only wt related material was to be read.. it was stated that the doctors became so upset at this that they quit the wt on the spot!.

  has anyone else heard or read that story?.

  A relative told me about one of the conventions held in Toledo, Ohio, in 2006. On Friday the air conditioning went out in the auditorium, but this didn't stop the convention. The temperature went well into the 90's. One of the brothers my relative knew, who was in his early 50's, had to go to the emergency room. I'm sure there must have been others as well.

  Hi Grandma Jones - glad you came on board. I'm also a grandma and was a long-time witness. Still have lots of relatives who are in so know how you are feeling. Just remember, you don't owe anybody any explanations. Just do what your heart and mind tell you to do.

  as a parent i fully understand the concept of wanting my children to choose their friends wisely, to be careful about literature they read & so on & would i cast them out for being wayward?

  yes, i have, & they learnt their lesson & were welcomed back with immediacy the minute they made the necessary changes.

  The sad part is...even if were appropriate to DF the child for wrong conduct, if the child discontinues the wrong conduct, he/she is not reinstated unless he/she goes back to the meetings and grovels to the elders. It doesn't matter how good a life they are leading.

  I remember the article (it will be denied now) where the TELEVISION was called "the eye of Satan in your home."

  They also criticised the sheeples for wanting VCRs then propmtly released Videos.

  Yes, I remember when we weren't even supposed to have a TV, then they criticized color TV, then VCRs, and now HD TV. It seems like everything something new comes out, it's wrong, but later it's OK because there will be something new to criticize. They just can't seem to mind their own business.

  The Lord, through his "faithful and wise servant" now states to us, "Let us cover our territory four times in six months." That becomes our organization instructions and has the same binding force on us that his statement to the Logos had when he said, "Let us make man in our image."

  The above quote from the 7-1-43 WT shows what having a "full share" in the ministry meant back then (this was in the midst of WWII). The end was so close....
