Para 8: "In this time of the end, Christ has committed “all his belongings”— all the earthly interests of the Kingdom— to his “faithful and discreet slave” and its representative Governing Body, a group of anointed Christian men. (Matt. 24:45-47) The anointed and their other sheep companions recognize that by following the lead of the modern-day Governing Body, they are in fact following their Leader, Christ."
Couldn't the pope and "heads" of the other religions just claim that they are also "in fact following their Leader, Christ." - see para.1.

Why did the WTBS endorse 1975?
by jay88 inis it not true that the leaders knew that it was a blatant lie when the 1975 teaching was propagated in the 60's?.
-

I'm not so the WTS leaders knew that their 1975 hype was a lie.
In Crisis of Conscience, Ray Franz says that when the end didn't come in 1975 as anticipated, the GB scrambled to try to figure out what had gone wrong.
This indicates that they really believed it themselves, probably because they believed that Freddy was a genuine Bible scholar.
So do you think that Freddy knew it was a lie?

Anyone use magicJack with a Mac?
by poppers ini'm looking to save some money on my phone service and wonder if anyone here who has a macintosh and uses magicjack.
any problems?.

I tried using magicJack with my windows system. I use a Verizon wireless card. It didn't work well at all. The quality was poor. Another thing: when I tried calling my companies 800 line, I got another company. A friend had recommended magicJack to me. He even came over to our house, and he couldn't figure out the problem either. He uses Comcast, but it's not available where I live.

Jehovahs Witnesses taught that Armageddon would occur in 1914,1915,1918,1921,1925,1932,1941 and 1975. Who is the father
by Little Imp ini saw a very long thread on answerbag answering the above question in which there are several jws responding and denyng vehemently what is said in the question.
in some places being quite rude to people.
the dialogue highlighted yellow is me, the text highlighted blue is someone who is agreeing that the jws did preach this.

Their own literature condemns them - no matter how hard they try to wriggle out of it afterwards: One of many examples being The Watchtower of August 15 1968, which even ran an article entitled "Why are you looking forward to 1975?"
I remember the excitement of that article too. Interestingly, when I mentioned this to my son-in-law about five years ago, he told me I was wrong. He said his family came into the "truth" about 1975, and they never heard anything about Armageddon coming in 1975. I believe what Witness 007 said above is true, that they started to downplay it earlier that year.
However, it was this conversation that ended my relationship with son-in-law, daughter, my father and several other relatives, and it branded me as an apostate.

Please post all the little things that make no sense about the JWs
by Aussie Oz ini want to collect a bunch of things that i can use to help my son see that the wbts and being a jw makes no sense.. i have a few in mind already.
they have to be things that might matter to a teenager, so doctrine will probably be out!.
(if you have read my last post you will see why).

Voting is a conscience matter, but a "mature Christian" would not vote--Watchtower QFR 1998.
Later the CO told our congregation that we should first consult the elders if we think we need to vote--for example, if our employer required it or a national government required it

I've Just Figured Out the Appeal of Sarah Palin!!
by AGuest inshe doesn't pronounce her "g'"s on the end of the words that end in "ing"!!!!
so, she's... cool!

But she certainly had something somewhere (blinders, maybe?)... when her little girl felt the need to go playin' "grownup." (See, there's always a reason for that... that starts at home. Not that I'm knockin' that, either).
And this was first little girl that ever did anything like this? If Sarah Palin had been male, would it even have been an issue? I have to agree, women can be catty.

Know anything about "Team National" - multi-level marketing?
by Bonnie_Clyde inclyde and i have a friend who is quite anxious to get us signed up.
it has to do with buying products and services at a discount.
supposedly, a lot of money can be made by getting others involved.

Just be sure to stay away from prepaid legal.
What's the matter with Prepaid Legal? I have been paying a month premium for a little over a year, but the only reason I took it out was because I have a lot of clients who own it. Four of the companies that I service for their health benefits are offering it to their employees on payroll deduction. I decided to take it out myself in the event that somebody should be unhappy and try to go after me on some technicality.
Prepaid will write letters on my behalf (though I haven't needed it yet), and I can consult them on legal documents. However, about two months ago I called them for an opinion on the meaning of a statement in an insurance contract and got a very unsatisfactory answer which makes me wonder if I'm wasting my money.
I have been asked numerous times to sell the product, but have always declined.

Thanks for the input everybody. Clyde and I talked about it this morning and have already decided not to do it.
Team National also has a huge start up fee--a little over $2,000. They mentioned that we could save up to $5,000 on a new car which we need. My question: Is that money that could have saved anyway by asking for discounts?
