It's not just the guys. I've seen girls that were covered with tattoos. I don't get it either.

do they have enough sense not to go tomorrow?
by carla ini can't remember, do they have enough sense not to go in fs in the us tomorrow?
new year's day (many need to sleep in!
), bowl games, etc....

I only went in FS once many years ago - when I was pioneering. I remember the CO's wife instructed us to knock very lightly. That way the people who were up might hear us but the "hung over" people could still sleep. She emphasized that that there are a lot of lonely people out there who would appreciate a visit. We were in rural territory and I think we were only out for about an hour. Don't remember finding any lonely people.

Voting a conscience matter??
by Cynisister inhappy new year one and all!,.
the local elders sent a letter home with my hubby, pretty much stating that after "many" attempts to visit and speak with me, this letter is once again asking to meet because it came to their attention that i voted in the last pres.
election.

Clyde and I just discovered "absentee" voting, and that's what we did at the last election. We can vote by mail if we are over age 60, out of town, or (I believe) have a religious reason. Don't know if this info would help anybody. Clyde and I are trying to stay out of the radar.

Do You Folks Wanna Hear My Story?
by Farkel ini've already written "my story".
i've been "out" for 35 years.
but that is not a story that contains the little stuff.

Farkel - I was baptised at a young teenager in 1956. I was very zealous, gave up the opportunity to go to college, pioneered, and did everything a young dub should have done--even influenced a number of people to accept the "truth" including my father.
I would be especially interested to hear your stories. They might bring back a few memories.

BOE LTR Dec 26, 2010 "Increased Activity April 2011"....Transcript....
by yknot inin an effort to increase the praise and honor to jehovah and jesus christ at the time of the memorial, the governing body has arranged for a special period of increased activity during april 2011.
you will be pleased to learn that during april 2011, publishers who wish to serve as auxiliary pioneers may indicate on the application whether they will be working toward a 30-hour or 50-hour requirement for the month.
this is a special arrangement for the month of april 2011 only.

Who else remembers when Pioneers HAD to make 100 hours a month or have a damn good reason why not. Vacation Pioneers (then called) had to do 75..and it was supposed to be 50 in the fortnight and the rest during the month.
And we had to get 1,200 hours for the year when I was pioneering. No allowance for vacation.

OK Blood card
by Bonnie_Clyde ini had a doctor's appointment last week, and we talked about the blood issue.
i informed her that i was no longer a jehovah's witness and that i would accept blood if it meant my life.
she reminded me that she will make a note of it, but that i should inform the local hospitals--in the event that i had to be hospitalized and was in a coma and couldn't speak for myself.

I was just hoping that somebody on this forum might have put an "OK Blood Card" together that I could copy. It wouldn't have to be very long--something like, "I am no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Although I would prefer not to have a blood transfusion, I am willing to accept one of it is a matter of life or death." My signature plus a witness.

I have been in hospital 4 times this year & each time I have been asked "are you still a jw"?, each time I have awnsered no & the have taken notes on the subject, so now one of the first things I ask on visiting the clinics is, do the records show I am not a jw?. I'll tell you, each time I have said no, you can see the relief in the staff, knowing they don't have to treat me in the jw way.
This is why it's so important to get a directive to the hospitals and clinics in my area. Even though Clyde and my two sons would not force the issue, if I had a bad accident, was taken by ambulance to the hospital and was in a coma, I believe the hospital would have to treat me according to what they have on record--which at this time is, NO BLOOD.
I'll check my state website as Blondie suggested...but it seems like I saw a scan of an "OK blood card" (my terminology) on this forum at one time.

She reminded me that she will make a note of it, but that I should inform the local hospitals--in the event that I had to be hospitalized and was in a coma and couldn't speak for myself. I have a record of refusing blood in the past when I had surgery. She said the hospitals would be obliged to honor my original directive, and nothing in her files would do me any good. She also suggested that I keep a card in my wallet stating that I would accept blood.
I remember discussions about this on this board before but haven't done anything about. Does anybody have a copy of a blood directive stating that they have reversed their decision on not taking blood? Something small enough to carry in my wallet? I plan to get everything in order this week.

Things we never told the public.....
by drewcoul ini thought it would be interesting to discuss the things we believed as jw's, but were kind of embarassed about and didn't tell the public about, since it would make us look ridiculous.......... one thing i can think of is the idea that only jw's will make it through armageddon.
everyone else would be destroyed.
i would never tell anyone that even though we all believed it.

I wouldn't tell anyone that we shunned people.

Why I Celebrate Christmas
by Perry inromans 12:.
him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.
for one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

That's great! And I'm glad for you. Clyde and I don't celebrate it (much) because we don't have to. We don't like being pressured into doing anything--had enough of that in the Borg. But we would celebrate it if it we had the hankering.
Merry Christmas!
