Hello Emma - so sorry about your sister's home and her cats. Hope your kind words will somehow make a difference.

i came across a mormon "sisters" blog...reading through some of her missionary experiences, it sounded so much like jw pioneer "sis" relating hers.
just swap out some of the cult-language words and it's suddenly a jw experience of sharing "bible truths" with some poor worldly sap.. here's an taste of it:.
1)we were also led by the spirit this week to a former investigator's home.
About 5 years ago I told a couple of LDS elders who stopped at our house that if I had to choose between JW and LDS, I would choose LDS. They thought they had a convert. I forgot to tell them that I had other choices--like choosing no religion at all. But they stopped to see us on a weekly basis for awhile and talked and prayed with Clyde and me. We were OK with it because we learned a lot about their religion, but then came the thrust to attend their church. That's when we stopped.
They must keep a file on us because every time they change their elders they come out specially to visit us. Last week Clyde and I sat on the front porch, and Clyde ended up doing most of the talking. I still see myself when I was their young age, pioneering, and I thought I had the absolute truth. No one could have convinced me otherwise, and there's no way to convince these two guys now.
i dont remember the date.
or the year or if it was a district or circuit.
what i do remember is that we rode up with a car full of other female witnesses.
The last assembly I attended (district) was all about "godly obedience" which really meant unwavering obedience to the elders. I think it was in 2005. Only reason I went was because of my father, and it was excruciating.

wt study ed this sept (p.25) reads:.
"just think how discouraging it.
could have been to expect the end and.
At one time I thought they explained that the 3-1/2 years that Jesus preached paralleled the time period between the fall of 1914 and the spring of 1918 - but I can't remember what happened in the spring of 1918--not visibly anyway unless there was an earth-shaking assembly somewhere.

The song with the lyric, "Come and take life's water free" - my young daughter thought they were talking about ice water.
i could have called this "fee now charged to go to circuit assembly" but i do not want to start rumours that go beyond what was actually said.
the k hall announcement encouraged attendance at the upcoming assembly day.
the elder then said that since the congregation no longer has to make a blanket donation to the assembly hall it is expected that the publishers remember their responsibility to maintain the costs.
The comments on the costs of renting versus owning an assembly hall reminded me of the early 1970's when Clyde was accounts servant for the assemblies. The excuse that was used to get the congregations approve an assembly hall was how expensive it was to rent the high schools. Clyde was fairly vocal that the last high school we "rented" was free and the one before that was $1,000 for the weekend (3-days), and that was the highest we had ever paid. But, not only did the assembly hall get built, another assembly hall went up about 15 years later about 70 miles away. A lot of the brothers who contributed time and money for the first one were hit upon to do it again.
But get this! Not too long after this, the elders who inherited the first assembly hall sent letters to the congregations who were now using the second hall asking for donations for renovating their facility. This was their reasoning: any time you move out of a house, you want to make sure it is in perfect condition for the new tenants. So Clyde asked the question, "If you give away a building, does the new tenant really expect to you leave it in mint condition?" Shouldn't the new tenants be greatful for what they have? Actually, I don't think these yoyo's ever got the money, at least not from our congregation, because our elders saw it the same way. They couldn't see donating time and labor for two assembly halls and then being hit for help with renovating the first one.

this sunday, august 26th, 2012, is besse cooper's birthday.
besse is the oldest verified living person.
she will be 116 years old on sunday!
Wow - my mother lived to be 106-1/2 and she was born in 1896. I often referred to her as part of the generation that did pass away.

through out history, mankind's governments and religious organizations have restricted their citizens from reading, viewing and speaking any information that was critical or expressed a different viewpoint other than was taught by the government or religion.
Amen!
if you look on page 10, "what is god's purpose for the earth?," you'll see an illustration of adam in the garden--with a belly button!!
what were the wt artists thinking????.
i'd post a scan but, alas, i'm unable to in my present locale..
I just pulled out my copy of "From Paradise Lost to Paradise Regained" (1958). On page 21 there's a picture of Adam sitting naked in the garden. He has no belly button.
on my introduction post a few people expressed interest in how the worldwide church of god (wwcg) imploded.
i think maybe in hopes something similar will happen with the jws.
i think the jws will also eventually experience a meltdown but probably not in the same way since the power structure was a bit different.
Many years ago I wrote Herbert Armstrong a letter asking if he had ever been a Jehovah's Witness. He responded that he had never been a witness but that he had read our magazines.
