  Quotation in book - what are your thoughts

  been away for a couple of months as i felt that i needed a break.

  during this period i completed reading a book (fiction), titled; conclave - authored by robert harris.

  there is a very interesting sentence in the book which got me thinking.

  Back when Clyde and I were still attending, I remember after a WT study article about humility, that Clyde mentioned to one of the brothers, "I am so proud that I'm humble." I think he got the point.

  thanks.. no really, thank you.. you decided to drive down to la with your wife and kids to be with extended family and eat a great big meal on thanksgiving.

  that's awesome.

  no, really, i hope you had great thanksgiving.. then you drove back up here, and that's a good day's drive so you were pretty tired.

  can anybody point me to actual written society instruction pre 1981, regarding not shunning da ones?.

  i know they included shunning as of the wt sept 15 1981, but was before that time purely an unwritten practice or what?.

  I'm almost certain that Ray Franz wrote the August 1, 1974, article about showing "common courtesy and consideration." I remember we had drywall man who was working on our house back in 1979. My father (a super elder) was talking to him and found out he was disfellowshipped. It didn't phase him a bit, he just commented to me later that we just couldn't talk about anything spiritual. The rules changed in 1981.

  I suggest you call the dental office on Monday and ask to be placed on a waiting list. If someone cancels their December appointment, you might be in luck. It worked for me.

  Were you aware of the shunning policy when becoming a JW

  for those who became jws, were you fully aware of the societys cruel shunning policy whilst studying?

  i absolutely had no idea such a policy existed until years later.

  it really only hit home when reading the horrendous stories on the internet around 2002. .

  It wasn't always so harsh. Late 50's and 60's, as I recall, we could speak to a disfellowshipped person, just couldn't discuss anything spiritual...that wasn't hard. Also, they could fellowship with their relatives.

  6 As a teacher, Jesus reached hearts because he loved Jehovah, God’s Word, and people.

  Jesus was only mentioned one time, Jehovah about 16 times. Shouldn't they be putting more emphasis than that on Jehovah's son?

  for those who don’t remember, longo was a life-long witness (even a one-time ministerial servant) who strangled and/or drowned his wife, mary jane, and their three children, zachery, sadie and madison.

  well, yesterday i talked to a woman who works with one of mary jane’s sisters who told me that longo was coming up for a new trial.

  darkspilver - I believe it is legit. Mary Jane's sister's name is Jennifer. I plan to make a donation toward the fundraiser.

  Anyone who thinks they could have any sympathy for that jerk should read the link that I attached. After the murders he used a fake credit card number to buy a ticket to Cancun, posed as a New York journalist, and shacked up with a German photographer. I think he was with her when the authorities busted him. He never showed any remorse. I personally would have no trouble flipping the switch.

  Well, yesterday I talked to a woman who works with one of Mary Jane’s sisters who told me that Longo was coming up for a new trial. The sister will be travelling from Michigan to Oregon and didn’t have the money, but there was a local fund raiser that netted $3,800 to assist her.

  This blows my mind. There is no question that Christian Longo was guilty of this heinous crime. However, I can’t find anything on the internet to confirm a new trial, not yet.

  just found out that in the congregation we used to attend there are two young brothers, both are sons of elders and recently engaged to girls in neighboring congregations.

  instructions are that they may not sit together at assemblies or meetings.

  but get this….they can’t even ride in the same car even if their parents are also in the car.

However, they are allowed to talk on the phone as long as it doesn’t get past 9 p.m.

  How on earth can they get to know one another? Yet, they are required to spend the rest of their life with someone they barely know?
