Hey Finally-Free: Clyde and I have often commented about how the WT keeps referring to "new scrolls." We are trying to figure out where it says "new." The scripture simply says that "scrolls were opened." Maybe it means that we will finally understand the Bible. I'll tell you what! We've been studying the Bible for almost 50 years, and know less than we knew when we were teenagers. Everything we've learned from the WT is in serious doubt. They have lied to us so many times we don't know what to believe. If they told us it was raining outside, we'd have to go out and get drenched before we were sure.

Why One "Inspired" Bible...but endless "literature" about it?
by upside/down in"christians" are so proud of their one bible... the most widely distributed...blah blah blah...and thus it must be "god's" word.... yet the wts (in particular) is constantly producing new "literature"...why?.
can't they comment on what they "know" about a certain scripture and leave it at that...i mean how much real "new light" is there?.
they just rehash the same old crap over and over.... cheeezus...print one book...and then just "revise" it as needed... oh wait...i thought they had one book...the bible.... why do the interpretations need interpretation...???.

Another JW cong story... it's not adultery or fornication if...

Yes, Fleaman, I was being ironic.
But I agree with (can't remember name). She shouldn't have been fooling around with another woman's husband. Even most "worldly" people believe it's wrong.

It all depends on how repentant you are. The elders have a portion of holy spirit and can probably read your mind.

Jehovah's Witnesses: How Their Subculture is Fading Away.
by metatron ini am old enough to remember the days when conventions lasted many long days and large.
numbers of brothers were employed in preparing hot meals served on trays, army-style.
also recall how good these steam cooked meals tasted - and how policemen, assigned to.

I remember the days when we had an orchestra at the assembly. We would get together on a Sunday evening prior to the assembly and practice. Since we were all accomplished musicians, it took only one session. But the Society improved their electronic tapes, and suddenly the circuit overseer decided that it took much of our time practicing and we would go electronic. I miss those times. It was a lot of fun and we formed a lot of friendships that have disappeared.
Same thing at the Kingdom Hall. I do know of one KH that still has a piano, and a sister plays sometimes. Seems like there is less incentive for the children to learn music.

That's right! The September 1, 2005, WT, page 26, reported that Mennenite families in Bolivia were expelled from their religion. "This was a cruel blow indeed. The cart belonging to the colony cheese factory passed by the home of one family without collecting their milk, denying them their only source of income. One family head was dismissed from his job. Another was turned away from buying supplies at the colony store, and his ten-year-old daughter was expelled from school. Neighbors surrounded one home to take away the wife of one of the young men, asserting that she could not live with her expelled husband.. Despite all of this, the families who studied the Bible did not give up their search for the truth."
Does anything here sound familiar? I know many of you have your personal experiences, but some of this sounds like some happenings in Bethel about 1980.

Will the anointed remnant survive Armageddon?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini always thought that was what the society teaches.
in fact, haven't there been discussions about how we know the end has to be near because the number of the anointed remnant is decreasing, but there still have to be a few on the earth when armageddon comes to help get the educational work organized in the new world?.
well, i ran across this article today from the 9-1-89 wt pages 20 and 21, paragraphs 12 and 13. i was attending back then.

...."Some of the anointed remnant have thought of surviving and living on to welcome back such resurrected faithful ones who died before Pentecost 33 C.E. Will the anointed be thus privileged?
This would not be necessary. The great crowd of tribulation survivors will be on hand in ample numbers to take care of the situation and to acquaint the resurrected ones with the 'new earth' under the 'new heavens.' Even now, the great crowd is being organized for this. Today, when Jesus' spiritual brothers on earth reportedly number less than 9,000, the survivors from among them would in any case be too few to take care of all the preparatory work leading up to the general resurrection. Here, then, is where the great crowd, whose number runs into the millions, will serve excellently. And such a privilege is doubtless reserved for them."

I remember that public talk. I remember the high school where we had the assembly and almost remember the District Overseer who delivered it. I also remember a big sign outside the high school advertising the talk. Boy, I wish I had taken notes or kept them. I KNOW that the "nearness of the end" was emphasized, and we were taught that it would all be over during the 1970's. I don't think he specifically mentioned 1975, but he didn't have to. We had already had enough articles and circuit overseer talks to know what he meant.

1964 KM - Page 4:
Question Box: What viewpoint should we take toward membership in such organizations as the YMCA, if one's membership is solely for the use of recreational facilities?
Answer: The Young Men's Christian Association is in actuality a manifestation of interfaith. Regardless of the reasons for which various persons may personally choose to be affiliated with it, the underlying purpose of the organization itself is religious. One who fills out a membership form and pays the required fee so that he will be entitled to regular use of the organization's recreational facilities becomes a part of that organization. And it must be borne in mind that all these religious systems that are not serving Jehovah God are part of Babylon the Great. Joining such an organization is an act of apostasy. How unwise it would be to assign bodily exercise such a prominent place in our lives that we would compromise our faith to engage in it! (1 Tim. 4:8) So if any have done this without realizing what was involved, it would be wise to take action right away to sever those connections.
Of course, it ought to be borne in mind that becoming a card-carrying member of an organization such as this is different from renting their facilities on a particular occasion for a stipulated price. On occasion, auditoriums and swimming pools have been rented from these organizations for use in connection with an assembly, but that is not the same as entering into an alliance with the organization as a member of it.
