Don't have access to my CD ROM right now but I'm almost sure I read an autobiography written by Fred Franz and that he mentioned getting severely criticized at one point by Rutherford. Although he felt a little offended at first, he decided that he probably deserved the reproof. Can anybody find Fred Franz's story?

Olin Moyle's son approved--then disapproved
by Bonnie_Clyde ini have a 1939 watchtower volume and happened to see a letter written to "brother rutherford" by peter moyle, son of o. r. moyle who as i remember took the society to court about that time.
here's what he wrote: "on august 8, 1939, when the bethel family was asked to express their disapproval of the letter of o. r. moyle, i expressed my approval by remaining seated.
after prayerful and scriptural consideration of the matter, i am now of the opinion that my action was wrong.

On page 344 of the 1939 WT, paragraph 25, Rutherford prints a denunciation that resembles the articles back in 1981(?) after Ray Franz was thrown out. "Such persons hope to make themselves of good reputation among men by falsely accusing God's organization and his servants, and, thus indulging in false and evil speech, they find themselves ensnared in Satan's trap. One whom the Lord favors with a position therein of confidence toward his organization and has in charge confidential matters, and who then assaults the organization with false and evil words, shows himself to have been ensnared by the wicked one. He discloses that he has ignored God's Word and has been led by fear that he will not receive the approval of others unless he follows the course of evil speaking. Such a person shows that he has no fear of God, but that he does fear men, desiring their approval."
Obviously, referring to Olin Moyle as it was written shortly after the announcement of his expulsion.

I have a 1939 Watchtower volume and happened to see a letter written to "Brother Rutherford" by Peter Moyle, son of O. I wish to state that I am in full harmony with the Theocracy of Jehovah and I recognize the Society as the visible part. I desire to co-operate to the best of my ability and opportunity." - page 382
On page 258 of the same year, the WT made an announcement: "By reason of his unfaithfulness to the kingdom interests, and to those who serve the kingdom, O. R. Moyle is no longer with the Society. The full board of directors of the Society on August 8, by Resolution, unanimously demanded that the president sever Moyle's connection with the Society immediately. It was done. Brethren will address their communications concerning their legal difficulties: WATCHTOWER BIBLE AND TRACT SOCIETY, Legal Desk, 117 Adams St., Brooklyn, N. Y.

Will Bush change his view on global warming now
by ballistic in.
this is what they are discussing on bbc news 24 right now, in relation to the katrina hurricane.. their conclusion was quite negetive, i was just interested to see if anyone on here had any views?.

Ballistic - I will agree we have had a hot summer here in the midwest of America, but it's not the hottest I can remember. As for previous years, the summer of 2004 was actually quite cool. The temperature rarely went over 80 degrees. In fact, the owner of a heating and air conditioning company with approximately 100 employees complained to me that he had to lay many employees off that summer because they weren't getting much business. The last few winters in our area were quite cold and "wintry" in the true sense of the word. I'm 63 years old and I've seen lots of hot summers, cool summers, mild winters, and extremely cold winters. I don't see any trend, but then I'm only one person on a big planet.

My father remembers the year 1934 and so do a lot of people--one of the hottest years on record. There were dust storms throughout the midwest for lack of rain, and the whole country suffered from the intense heat. What caused the problem that year? How long have we been keeping records? How do we know that the weather is much different than, say, 1,000 years ago? Even if it is different, how do we know what the cycles of the earth are over thousands of years? I agree, however, we need to take care of the earth, but I don't think we need to panic.

Not DA'd, Not DF'd - but pretty much Disowned...
by Ingenuous ini just came from what will probably be the last conversation i'll ever have with my father.
earlier in the day, i'd talked to my mom and she asked what i was up to - translated "what are you doing with yourself since you aren't going to meetings or out in service?
" i told her i'd been discussing the bible with an informal group of people and reading older wts literature.

I can't tell you how much your words affected me. It is so hard to have your own parents turn on you. I'm so happy you have not let your experience turn you away from God or the scriptures. You seem to be such a decent person, and your parents should be proud that they have a daughter with deep convictions.
I'm much older than you, but just in the last year my own father (now in assisted living) has turned against me because I stopped going to meetings. He was largely influenced by my adult daughter, and my father has recently given most of his property to her. That was a huge slap in the face inasmuch as I was the one who he depended on for many years for help in caring for my mother who passed away three years ago--with little help from the rest of the family. It's ironic that I am the person who largely influenced my father and my daughter to become witnesses many years ago.

My wife is thinking of quitting the "truth"!
by Goldminer in.
last night my wife said she was thinking about quitting the truth.she says she finds it too hard with me having doubts and not wanting to be a jw anymore.she has also been burned by her few jw friends, and the rest are either disfellowshipped or getting divorced.it's really hard to build lasting relationships with such people in the religion.. another positive factor is that she has made 2 good "worldly" friends over the past year.i think she's starting to see that people on the outside can be nice, have morals and accept others as they are.. i hope in time she starts feeling good about this decision and that i can slowly show her the many errors of the wts.so far she agrees with many of the things i've told her but still believes it's the truth.it's a hard battle but i never tought i'd hear her say those words.. btw,she finally called a local elder to see if he can help me with my many questions.he's coming over tonight so it should be quite interesting.i think he'll be a little surprised at some of the direct questions i have;i'm also hoping that after a while he decides there's not much hope for me and just labels me an apostate and starts talking about df'ing me.that would show my wife their attitude towards answering questions that have no scriptural answers.. anyways,i'll do my best to keep you all up-dated.it can be hard to post as my wife diesn't know i come here on a regular basis.. goldminer

I'm happy for you too. It took me 25 years to see the truth about the "truth" after Clyde had already seen it. Well I'd say it was 19 years that he was really sure. I don't know how he put up with me that long.

the society is "encouraging" chinese converts to go back to china to preach
by in a new york bethel minute inmy mother told me this at dinner tonite.
has anyone else heard of this?
she didn't know if the work was still under ban there, and neither do i. but either way it's pretty stupid.

BTW, the WT study two weeks ago talked about going to foreign lands to preach. It was mentioned at the study that the brothers in other countries like to have English speaking witnesses come to their land so they can send them to the English-speaking people in their community.

by skyman inhow fanatic was your po i bet not as fanatic as mine.
one night there was a fire in a petrolium storage facility one block from the kingdom hall the police had baricades up and vacated the area around the hall.
the po called and told all us that jehovah would not let the place blow up while meeting was going on so meeting was still going to be held and he asked all of us brothers to call and inform the congregation that jehovah will protect us and to tell the congregation about an article of a hurricane that destroyed a town but jumped over the kingdom hall.

I remember the article about the mudslide. I even found it recently but can't remember for sure what country. Might have been Chili. I came to the same conclusion. A few years earlier there was an article about a tornado in (I believe) Elkhart, Indiana, and the brothers who were at the meeting were spared, but some who missed the meeting were killed. Then came the article about the mudslide. That was also a turning point for me as far as understanding that there is no "special" protection.
I will try to find the mudslide article when I have more time.
