I'd like to go to a church or celebrate Christmas (maybe just hang lights out on the porch), but know that I can't if I don't want them to come knocking on the door. However, I just found out that the CO is visiting our cong this week....time for a visit.

My father told me this. (He is now deceased). A few years ago one of his fellow elders' son was counselled for the use of drugs. Shortly after this, my father had a talk on the service meeting on a subject not related to drug use, but somehow brought up the subject of drugs anyway in a way that completely offended the other elder. After the meeting the other elder literally slammed the Kingdom Hall door as we went out.
My dad had a way of offending people, he always felt they had it coming.

Surely Jesus is aware of the growth process! Rather, this sower, like the one mentioned earlier, represents individual Kingdom proclaimers, those who sow the Kingdom seed by their zealous preaching activity. The seed that is cast to the ground is the word that they preach.*
Clyde's friend was just here and brought us the Koolaid edition with the study article about "God Who Makes It Grow?" (studied on 9-21-08). He mentioned the point about the sower being God's fellow workers and not Jesus. I pulled out my Bible and read Matthew 13:37. I asked how the WT could change what the Bible said. He had no answer.
Anyway, what do you posters think of the reason why the WT thinks the sower couldn't be Jesus?

A CLEAR definition of "higher education"

the brother giving the talk wanted to make sure that all in attendance understood clearly what the watchtower's definition of "higher education" was.

When I got out of high school, they didn't even want me to go to a 2-year college. I was told that the secretarial skills I had learned in high school were all I needed to have a good job. I wanted to become an accountant.
I could forgive them for the advice I was given a few decades ago, but I can't forgive them for giving the young people of today the same bad advice. They haven't learned a thing....

Strategies for dealing with the borg

but i also realized how much i hate listening to the talks.. i've come up with two or three strategies on how to deal.
one is to take advantage of the borg by going to a foreign language congregation.

I went to the Memorial for a Spanish speaking congregation about three years ago. Best Memorial I ever attended. I only understood about 1 word out of 10, but it helped sharpen my skills a bit as I followed the speaker with both my English Bible and Spanish Bible on my lap.

Does this weeks' Service Meeting touch on how to treat df'd relatives?
by Bonnie_Clyde ina friend of clyde's, who is an ubm but attends meetings anyway, called today to say that their was a part on last night's meeting that was very hard hitting on how to treat disfellowshipped relatives.
he thinks his wife was being singled out because she recently spent several days at her daughter's home to help out with her new baby.
the daughter was disfellowshipped over 10 years ago for living with her boyfriend, but now they have been legally married for quite some time.

A friend of Clyde's, who is an UBM but attends meetings anyway, called today to say that their was a part on last night's meeting that was very hard hitting on how to treat disfellowshipped relatives. He thinks his wife was being singled out because she recently spent several days at her daughter's home to help out with her new baby. The daughter was disfellowshipped over 10 years ago for living with her boyfriend, but now they have been legally married for quite some time. The mom also had a very difficult pregnancy and couldn't lift over 5 pounds so it was important that she get some help from her family.
Clyde's friend said he almost got up and walked out. I wish he had.... I understand that the wife is very upset about it, but my gut feeling is that she will follow the counsel instead of standing up to her rights. So much for being an organization that promotes family values.
Anyway, I'm wondering if this was a scheduled part on the program or a "special needs" talk.
