We had a circuit overseer who announced from the platform that he was leaving the circuit work because his daughter was having triplets and he felt that she needed his help. I had great respect for that man (wish I could remember his name).

Most JW's are Concerned with Position/Appearance - Not Serving God
by flipper inbeing raised in the jehovah's witnesses for 44 years ( exited 7 years ago ) - i observed many different variables that made each witness tick or operate.
but one of the most common variables was witnesses wanting to excel in progressing to positions becoming elders, ministerial servants, or pioneers because then and only then would they be looked at as allegedly " spiritual " or closer to jehovah.
but i learned as years went by that having a " position " in the congregation didn't make a person anymore " spiritual " or closer to god than witnesses who were not in appointed positions.. myself- having been appointed a ministerial servant at the tender baby age of 20 yrs.

DID ANYONE ELSE JUST FEEL THAT EARTHQUAKE??
by Mary ini'm sitting here working away and about half an hour ago, i felt everything start to shake.
i thought "what the heck is that?
" they're doing construction next door so i thought maybe that was it, but apparently, we just had a earthquake here in southern ontario and quebec.. anyone else feel it?.

Didn't feel it even though some people felt it in our area. How many people have earthquake coverage on their home? I decided several years ago to spend the extra $100/yr just in case. I remember two years ago waking up at 5:30 a.m. with my bed shaking. I've mentioned earthquake insurance to several of my friends and they don't think they need it. My insurance agent says she has very few people with the coverage.

Clarifications on the 2010 Generation Overlap
by pirata inyet another generation thread... but this clears up quite a bit of the ambiguity in the watchtower/outline explanations.
in "remain in the secret place of the most high", the closing talk of the 2010 district convention, the following clarifications were made on the 2010 generation overlap:.
the generation spoken of in exodus 1:6 includes all those mentioned whose lives overlapped (joseph, brothers, children, grandchildren).

Blondie - I found the info in the "Let Your Name Be Sanctified Book", starting on page 335 and continuing for several pages. It suggests that when Rutherford was on his death bed and he summoned two men of the anointed remnant (who we know to be Fred Franz and Nathan Knorr), that, "It appears that there the Elijah work passed, to be succeeded by the Elisha work." It inferred that Rutherford's death was like crossing the Jordan River. Paragraph 7 "In 1942, in the throes of World War II, the Elijah work passed."
This book came out in 1961...I remember studying it back then but didn't know it was "new light."

Rutherford wrote about the Elijah class and the Elisha class which took over in 1928 from the early anointed. So this is not a new idea because remember the WTS taught that the anointed would go to heaven in 1914.
Addition: the Elisha class took over in 1919 and was given a "double portion" of what Elijah received.
Blondie - I'm a bit confused. I remember the "Let Your Name Be Sanctified" had the Elisha class taking over in 1942 when Rutherford died.

JW's humble?
by donny induring my trek through the jw's i often heard talks and comments stating how witnesses were humble and meek, unlike the haughty-title loving people of the world especially christendom.
well i just received my 2010 alumni directory that covers everyone who graduated from the two high schools that were part of the district i live in.. so i spent the afternoon parusing its pages when i came across a listing for a guy who is now an elder in the congregation i used to attend.
here is how he describes himself.

As Clyde would say, "I'm so proud I'm humble."

WT September 15, 2010 - The Faithful and NOT SO Discrete Slave
by Designer Stubble inthe wt of september 15, 2010 (kool-aid version) has two articles on unity.
one is titled: unity identifies true worship and the other christian unity glorifies god.
of course it is more uniformity, not true unity.

I'm going to ask a rather embarrassing question as I should know the answer by now. Isn't it true that I can get the KookAid edition of the WT on www.watchtower.org? If so, how to I find them? I want to see the entire 9/15/10 article.

When did JWs in Mexico stop being a "cultural organization"?
by JimmyPage inwhen did they start praying and singing songs again?
what was the reason given?
or is the situation still the same?.

Even though I was a good dub back in 1989, I remember being surprised when I saw the announcement in the WT that the brothers in Mexico were now allowed to use the Bible, to pray, and to sing songs. I wondered why there hadn't been a letter writing campaign about it. Didn't find out until I read Ray's book.

"The End is Closer Than You Think" came up at a party.
by RubaDub inwe were at a party (get-together in jw speak) and somehow the ones i was talking with changed the subject to a talk given by the co that "the end is closer than we think.".
i just sheepishly asked the group ... "i don't understand that phrase, "the end is closer than we think.
" i said my parents told me i would never go to school, then later that i would never graduate from high school, and that i would never get married.. then i mentioned my parents were expecting the end to be in 1975 ... my grandparents were expecting the end numerous times in the 1920's and 1930's.. so i very nicely asked, "isn't is more correct to say "the end is farther than we think?

I have to ask if the end is so close, why do most witnesses seldom talk about it except among themselves? I remember talking about Armageddon a long time ago when I went from door to door, but then we were instructed to just talk about the wonderful peaceful new world. I've seen some TV shows about religions that believe Armageddon is imminent and JW's are never mentioned.

What happens when a elderly dub is put into a care home?
by highdose inspeaking from my experiance i have seen no less than 10 elderly jw's put into old age care homes and promptly forgotten about!.
no visits from their "loving shepards" no vists from their spritual family.
they were left to rot out of sight out of mind.

Well and old friend of Clyde's, who was a PO for many years and raised five children in the "truth", is in an assisted care facility right now. Other than Clyde, he only gets visits from his family, but nobody from the congregation stops by even though it is very convenient from the KH. Clyde's answer (tongue in cheek) is that he's not attending meetings (of course he can't) so why should they bother with him?
I could also go on and on about how they neglected my parents even though my father had been a long-time elder.

by maninthemiddle injust when i thought this stupid belief that earthquakes went up in 1914, here it is again.

What about the New Madrid earthquake in the early 1800's? It's my understanding that it changed the course of the Mississippi River and was so huge that it was felt in Washington DC and caused church bells to ring in Boston(?) or somewhere in the eastern USA. Back then it only affected a few Indians and settlers. I've heard that an earthquake of that magnitude now would be far more catastrophic than anyone in this country has ever seen.
