Years ago the meeting at our hall was actually 2 hours and 15 minutes (maybe 2 hours and 10 minutes). The Ministry School had to be a full hour, the Service meeting had to be a full hour, and we had to allow extra time for song and prayer, including the middle song. So the meeting started at 7:25 p.m. and ended about 9:40 p.m. That was really rough on the school kids. We would get home at 10:15 p.m. at the earliest.

Watchtower Annulled My Baptism
by RICHT incontrary to popular belief you can have your baptism annulled as i did by my local elders after my judicial hearing.. the watchtower of 1964 page 126 first paragraph clearly states that anyone that was committing a gross sin before, during and after their baptism is void.
in order to get right with the lord you would need to be re-baptised.
err no thanks, i'm not a believer!!!!.

Don't forget back in the 60's, you didn't have to go through all the questions with an elder before baptism. Basically all you had to do was show up. A person could have claimed ignorance.

It appears legit to me. Three things I noticed.
1) It was a doctor in the congregation who gave her treatment and who seduced her, but she wouldn't tell them who the doctor was? Seems like they could figure it out. How many doctors would there be in a congregation? Most congregations don't have any.
2) "If guilty of adultery before 1947, don't dig in." What happened in 1947?
3) They were calling the congregation a "company" as late as 1951?

"Historical" Announcement This Week?
by headisspinning inmy daughter asked if anyone has heard anything about a 'big announcement' being made sometime this week in congregations in canada and possibly beyond... in her words "it's like a biggggg long thing, they cut out part of the book study for it and people heard it was a historical thing"... any ideas?
could it be the mexican branch closing or the theme of the convention?
or something else?

"I was listening to JT,s podcast recently on Critical Thinkers site and on one episode, he was talking about how the Watchtower in the next 5 years will be making a change in the Blood issue because of all the lawsuits. Now that would be historical if they did remove the ban on blood, and maybe a lot of witnesses would finally wake up."
If this were to happen, maybe they would have to pull up the WT article from 1998 about "Feelings of having suffered needlessly" and how the brothers who had to go to prison because of the alternative service ruling were told to be happy that they suffered even though the rule changed later. Maybe we should be happy that our loved ones died because of the blood ban because they were being faithful at the time even if the rule changed later.
That article from 1998 is what got me thinking...

A better way to ask questions - Anybody remember "Amazing"?
by Bonnie_Clyde infirst of all, i wonder whatever happened to jim whitney (aka amazing).
when i first joined this forum, i remember being so impressed by the way he got his family out.
instead of knocking the organization head-on, he would ask questions that can't be answered during his family study, such as, "how would you answer someone if they said we were false prophets?

First of all, I wonder whatever happened to Jim Whitney (AKA Amazing). When I first joined this forum, I remember being so impressed by the way he got his family out. Instead of knocking the organization head-on, he would ask questions that can't be answered during his family study, such as, "How would you answer someone if they said we were false prophets?" Or, "How can be show someone that Jehovah is using the Governing Body to lead his people." Or, what would you say to a doctor who asks why we can accept blood fractions but not a blood transfusion." Or, "What would we answer someone who claims the Watchtower predicted 1914 and 1975 as the year for Armageddon?" Then he would ask the family to do some research during the week. His method worked!
For those who are wanting to fade, wouldn't this be a better way to ask the elders without raising suspicion? Always throw the question back to a 3rd party. I notice a lot of the posters like to ask these questions head-one, and it very seldom works.

Just thought I would revive an old thread about the marriage vows from 50+ years ago. I believe it was in the vows that Clyde and I took. "Divine termination of the marital arrangement preceded "according to God's marital arrangement."
https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/104926/divine-termination-marital-arrangement-need-old-timer
I think it was referring to the possibility that someday in eternity God might terminate marriages, but maybe the Society could say it would allow for terminating the marriage now if a spouse becomes an apostate. Just saying....

Back when Clyde and I were still attending, I remember after a WT study article about humility, that Clyde mentioned to one of the brothers, "I am so proud that I'm humble." I think he got the point.

I'm almost certain that Ray Franz wrote the August 1, 1974, article about showing "common courtesy and consideration." I remember we had drywall man who was working on our house back in 1979. My father (a super elder) was talking to him and found out he was disfellowshipped. It didn't phase him a bit, he just commented to me later that we just couldn't talk about anything spiritual. The rules changed in 1981.
