we all know the calculations used by the wt to arrive at 1914. fall of babylon in 607 (false year), gentile times, no zero year, ta-da, 1914.. what did they use before that?
i know it wasn't russell who came up with it - he just adopted it.
i'm just curious what they had to explain away when they made the transition.. .

1874 was partly based on antitype parallels with Jesus' earthly life.
Rough outline:
From 1844 to 1874 the Bridegroom delayed - mirroring Jesus' first thirty years of life on earth;
1874, the Bridegroom's heavenly presence paralleled his presence on earth as the chosen, newly baptized Messiah;
1878 was 3 and a half years after that when he was installed as King in heaven - mirroring the time when he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey and hailed as king by the people.
yes it happen again with our youngest son.
this last monday we got a letter from him telling us how unloving we are because we are no longer jw.
cult and not had kids.
I'm with those who take the least confrontational approach. By all means put him right where he's unfairly twisted things round by blaming you for his own actions, but don't attack Watchtower. Absorb his own assault on you and acknowledge his hurt. Remember Rom. 12:17-21 - the one about conquering evil by 'heaping fiery coals' upon your opponent's head? Appeal to the human, not the angry cult persona.
Suggested outline for a response, if it's not too late:
It was lovely to hear from him but you and your wife found some of his comments hurtful and unfair. You understand why he feels angry with you but he has no idea of the pain of what you and your wife have been through in coming to the uncomfortable conclusions you have about the Organization (do not elucidate!) or the anguish in making the decision to leave it. Those conclusions and decisions were not arrived at lightly, nor were they intended to cause him grief. They were for reasons of conscience and personal integrity (I can't remember if you still believe the Bible or not, but if you do, add something to the effect that you have to stay loyal to God and the Scriptures.) If ever he wants to know your reasons, you'll be happy to discuss them, but if not, that's fine also. It's important to have mutual respect of each other's choices. At this point, remind him of the Awake! quote about how people shouldn't be forced to choose between beliefs and family.
Reassure him of your love for him, his brother and the grandchildren. You miss the grandkids terribly and would love to visit with them, write them, Skype, send gifts, etc., however, out of respect for his and his brother's express wishes on [such-an-occasion] (remind him of what he said and when), you have not done so, as distressing as it is for you and your wife.
Then ask how the grandkids are. How are they doing at school? Have they been or done anything exciting recently? Say you've enclosed checks for each of the grandkids so they can buy themselves a treat. Ask that he conveys your love, hugs and kisses to the kids. You hope to hear from him again soon, lots of love, etc.

There is only one name associated with the DNKJV. Jack Davidson (who says he isn't JW but sure speaks like one), who has the titles of 'Senior Editor' and 'Technical Support Director.' Mr. Davidson appeals for loans to keep this 'young translation' (LOL!) going:

This FB thread is on public setting, btw, and dates from March 2014. It may disappear one day hence the reason for it being reproduced below.
The Divine Name King James Bible 14 March ·
We are facing some hard financial times and are working full time jobs in order to keep the Divine Name King James Bible in production.
WE CAN'T BEAR THE THOUGHT OF THIS YOUNG TRANSLATION GOING OUT OF PRINT. WE KNOW WE DON'T HAVE TO EVEN ASK YOU HOW YOU FEEL, do we?
We refuse to be affiliated with any commercial organization or church, whether or not they are good or bad, simply so that this very special and unique of Bibles that have the Divine Name restored can remain free from accusations of bias.
So we can't do this without Jehovah's help. We are not really seeking divine intervention or prayers from you to Jehovah about this, that must be a matter of personal faith.
Our purpose to let everyone know what is going on and to ask for help from some and patience from those waiting on their order.
We are now forced to only print Bibles when we have enough Bibles to print.
1. If you will all rally support from your friends or even if you will order some bibles now and pay for it fully knowing that we don't yet have that bible to send to you - then that alone will be enough. - YOU WOULD GET YOUR BIBLE WITHIN 4 WEEKS AFTER THE DATE THAT WE REACH OUR GOAL.
Our goal would need to be just 500 Bibles.
Is this a good idea? We need your feedback or help.
2. IF ANYONE CAN LOAN US $5000 AT THIS TIME or if 5 people could loan $1000 or 10 could loan $500. The money will not go to pay salaries or bills of any kind but would only print the Bibles and you would be repaid as the orders were sent out. We don't need the income for our personal lives.
Please like and promote this page and tell as many people as soon as possible.

So because Daniel 4's dream is interpreted by Daniel to be typical of Nebuchadnezzar's reign, the Society can also assign an antitype to that dream to represent the Gentile times. Does that make sense?
They can, but they've just said it shouldn't be done unless scripturally warranted. The inspired apostle Paul is allowed to make those kinds of types/antitypes associations (Melchizedek, Sarah and Hagar, Jesus = Passover Lamb, etc.) but by Watchtower's own words,
"... we ought to be reluctant to assign an antitypical application to a certain person or account if there is no specific Scriptural basis for doing so."
The Org's antitypical interpretation of Dan. 4 is without specific scriptural basis. This new interpretational approach by the Org. agrees with what critics of Watchtower doctrine have been saying for, like, forever.

What a mindjob! Those poor JWs.
The WT says that the clearer, simpler comparisons between Bible narratives and modern lessons for us (without all the complex type/anti-type applications) "has the hallmark of divine teaching" (p. 11). It would be reasonable to conclude, then, that the previous complex type/anti-type applications the Org gave didn't have the hallmark of divine teaching. It was all man-made hooey masquerading as divine teaching.
The same goes for the "specific symbolic meanings" assigned "even to small details of Jesus' parable of the ten virgins, including the lamps, the oil, the flasks, and so forth." The paragraph continues, "Is it possible, though, that we were allowing the spotlight to shift from the parable's simple, urgent message?" (P. 13) Note the phrase, 'we were allowing.' Yes, it was you, Watchtower. Not God; not Jesus; not the Holy Spirit. You. You, who claim to champion Bible Truth and boast about exclusively having God's direction and favor. You who constantly denigrate the churches for their perversions of Scripture.
Additionally, the Org has always, since Russell's day, insisted that the Bridegroom had already arrived - 1874 then 1918 - always a retrospective interpretation. From 2013, however, the Bridegroom's arrival has been pushed into the future and the GB reiterates that new understanding in this article.
Despite these long-running falsehoods published by Watchtower, the GB states that, "Throughout the last days," the anointed "have acted like those discreet virgins," faithful and "steadily shining as illuminators, undaunted by any apparent delay in the arrival of the Bridegroom." (P. 14) Apart from the anachronistic expression, 'undaunted by any apparent delay in the arrival of the Bridegroom' (see paragraph above), how can the anointed be called 'discreet' or 'illuminators' when boldly promulgating misinterpretations of prophecy and parables, when the spotlight was turned in the wrong direction?
To addle poor JWs' brains even more, para. 9 on p. 14 construes Jesus' detail in his story about the ten virgins actually dozing off and falling fast asleep as an "implied warning" that faithful, anointed ones heeded so that they didn't fall asleep!
Here's a real doozy from the QFR on p. 18:
"Humans cannot know which Bible accounts are shadows of things to come and which are not. The clearest course is this: Where the Scriptures teach that an individual, an event, or an object is typical of something else, we accept it as such. Otherwise, we ought to be reluctant to assign an antitypical application to a certain person or account if there is no specific Scriptural basis for doing so."
With all the repeated shooting itself in the feet lately, it's a wonder Watchtower has any lower extremities left to be able to add another bloody hole.

Oh boy. I'm working my way through this jumble right now.
w13 7/15 p. 11 par. 6 “Look! I Am With You All the Days”
Still, there were numerous religious groups who claimed to be Christ’s followers. So a crucial question needed to be answered: Who among those groups were the wheat? To settle that question, Jesus began to inspect the spiritual temple in 1914. That inspection and cleansing work involved a period of time—from 1914 to the early part of 1919.
ws14 1/15 pp. 8-13, "100 Years of Kingdom Rule—How Does It Affect You?"
After Jesus cleansed the heavens of the bad influence of Satan and his demons, Jehovah had Jesus inspect and refine his followers here on earth. The prophet Malachi described this as a cleansing. (Malachi 3:1-3) History shows that this cleansing happened between 1914 and the beginning of 1919. ... If we want to be a part of Jehovah’s universal family, we must be clean, or holy. (1 Peter 1:15, 16) We must keep our worship clean from the contamination of false religion or politics.
Christmas was evidently not included in the cleansing process, therefore Jehovah couldn't have been too bothered about it.
He chose them anyway - Christmas, crosses, birthdays ...
All deemed,
Spiritually clean,
In 1919.

Chaserious - thanks for the info. Yes, very interesting!
Flipper and OTWO - You're both right, of course. Just looking at it from an 'above board,' 'nothing to hide' POV, according to Ashe's own statements. Even from that perspective it doesn't make any sense. What damned use is a centralized, internal, computerized database where nobody can readily access information? It may have been a successful stalling tactic for now, despite losing this legal round, but these feeble excuses can only backfire on them long term, surely.
Slidin Fast - You do know that you won't get a reply from Banned On the Run, now, right?
