Looking forward to the Jan 1 Watchtower lesson when the figures will be closely analyzed and interpreted.
Not.
for all those curious, here's a look at the new 2003 report.
jehovah's witnesses have been growing, but not a whole lot.
a peak of 6,429,351 publishers reported preaching in 235 lands.
Looking forward to the Jan 1 Watchtower lesson when the figures will be closely analyzed and interpreted.

(Excuse me, gotta go and answer the phone ...)
somewhere in apocalypse delayed james penton writes that the jws "have no systematic theology.
" i've heard this term elsewhere and have been wondering: just what is "sytematic theology"?
how does it differ from just plain 'ol "theology"?
Looks like you guys have it covered.
Not having a 'systematic theology', I guess, is another way of saying that they 'fly by the seat of their pants' and hope it works (or no-one notices).
some of you may remember that my husband suffered heart failure in may and the words "heart transplant" were mentioned often.
he has been in heart rehab (diet and exercise and close monitoring) and meds since then.
last week, he was told that the heart transplant was off the table.
Good for you! Happy for you both and glad that you and he are not on that perpetual treadmill that can hamper recovery!
.
i freeze some of my sperm (not at home...at one of those "banks" silly) and then get a vasectomy.

We sat through the lesson today. To be fair, the underlying principle is sound - be careful what you say and how you say it and what we speak reveals our heart.
HOWEVER, the flip side, I felt, was that the implication was if you were to get bad stuff off of your chest, talk about frivolities and not talk about the how wonderful God's provisions are, as expressed through the org, then you were not spiritual people and should feel guilty for being such.
GUILT. Again.
Talk. Within the prescribed bounds.
Which brings me to wannaexit's point. That was precisely what I was thinking too.
Some of the best spiritual conversations are found online! If they are within the cong, generally, the conversations are at worst met with blank faces/suspicion or at best met with the WTS' current view. What is most frustrating is when one is not allowed to Scripturally explore without the constraints of dogma.

I'm curious about one thing. Why is it that they keep regurgintating (sp?) material from past issues? Doesn't anyone at the Watchtower write original articles anymore? Did something happen to their writing committee?
One word: TRADITION.
I wonder if the WTS have got into a carefully-constructed theological tradition - built and strengthened on the previous beliefs. Now, due to the over-estimation of their own status, plus the belief system they have evolved, it is harder for them to change significantly without undermining a whole set of doctrines, which in turn would have an undesirable effect on the r&f.
As Blondie said
A lot of it is cut and paste.
LOL. So true. I like that phrase!
The one paragraph that really irritated me was 7 about how we can use spiritual gems from assemblies, meetings, publications and day's texts' comments as upbuilding conversation topics. At the side I pencilled in "and sometimes we can even use ones from the Bible too!" The manipulative use of the picture on p. 12 bugged me too - "Upbuilding conversations center on ..." mostly anything to do with what the WTS have published!
....i mean is it really healthy to be posting on this forum if you still hold pro-jw views?
is it really healthy to keep posting even though you may be anti-jw?
..... when does the crunch come to think enough is enough, i need to get a grip and move on with my life as a jw or exjw?
It partly depends what mood I am in.
I understand that ppl need to rant at times because of the hurt they feel (hell, I do), but it sometimes depresses me when ppl are scathing, derisory and sneering at others - esp. at dubbies, many of whom are doing the best they can with the misleading knowledge they have. OK, some are right b******* , but they're not all that way and the good ones deserve our love and sympathy, not our ridicule and condemnation. That's how an 'in-betweener' sees it anyhoo
OTOH, there are some here whose posts glow with encouragement and wisdom (including on this thread, Dawn's and Gypsywildone's and others' - willyloman, Wild Horses, Big Tex). The challenge of such a vast and varied site as this is to find those ones that enhance our psychological (or spiritual) health rather than destroy it.
I agree with the one who said that coming on these forums can be a way of escaping REAL life and it's better to get out there and live it (advice I need to heed, I think). I also agree that one needs to take their time especially when there are various ramifications to consider, to take a break from here every so often to regain perspective, and to read your Bible.

Why is the Koehler quote done to death?
Answer:
Insight book p201 On the origin of language, the well-known lexicographer Ludwig Koehler wrote: "There has been, especially in former times, much speculation as to how human speech ?came into being?. Writers strove to explore ?animal language?. For animals also are able to express audibly by sounds and groups of sounds their feelings and sensations, such as contentment, fear, emotion, threat, anger, sexual desire and satisfaction in its fulfilment, and perhaps many other things. However manifold these [animal] expressions may be, . . . they lack concept and thought, the essential domain of human language." After showing how men can explore the physiological aspect of human speech, he adds: "But what actually happens in speech, how the spark of perception kindles the spirit of the child, or of mankind generally, to become the spoken word, eludes our grasp. Human speech is a secret; it is a divine gift, a miracle."
I recently realized that many articles are a rehash of what's in the Aid book Insight book. Members will assume that there is deep study going on a headquarters. Sometimes that may be so (as long as it's within prescribed limits), but a lot of the time, the writers use past publications to base 'new' articles on. Then they wonder why the criticism is made that it's all been heard before and think members are being ungrateful!
