this post isn't about "how much longer until the new system of things" arrives.
i'm wondering how much longer people will buy this load of crap?
the society has been telling the r&f that armageddon is right around the corner for 124 years now, and they're still using this method.
Good topic Nosferatu! When I used to entertain myself with "impure thoughts" at the KH, i realized how fantasy is so much better than reality.
The JWs suspend their disbelief because they have everything invested in this Paradise on Earth fantasy. The more they give up "worldly things," the more deeply entrenched they become. Among the JWs the young people are leaving. I think this trend will continue among JWs in their 30s-40s who see the hypocrisy can't stand living the lie anymore.
There will always be old, brainwashed die hards who will remain and do anything the Society tells them. I have a feeling a lot of the elderly will stay in the faith out of fear and unhealthy dependency.
just my ramblings, i'm not usually up this early. -suz
the following story appears this morning in the south florida sun-sentinel at:.
http://www.sun-sentinel.com/news/local/southflorida/sfl-cmurdsui26aug26,1,2987431.story?coll=sfla-home-headlines.
fort lauderdale police suspect father killed son, then self in home shooting.
I wonder if the man killed his son to get back at his wife -- taking the one thing she loves most.
I'm always glad to see JWs get bad publicity. Shocking news reports are always a wake up call. maybe this is what it takes for people to question their faith, or for the authorities to investigate.
If there is a god, he must be a sadist and total prick to allow things like this to happen. -suz
remember the english girl babysitter who was supposed to have murdered that little baby?
the court case was on live tv everyday (like ojsimpson).
i watched both and was convinced of ojs guilt but was also convinced of lwoodwoods innocence.
Hello Brummie, I was riveted by that trial also.
The defendant (Louise Woodward) didn't seem very convincing on the stand ,especially when she did that shaking demonstration. There was also a time during the trial when she smiled (nervously) and many people interpreted that as being callous.
She had such a baby face, she didn't LOOK guilty. I'm glad the original sentence was reduced; she really didn't belong in jail.

after reading posts on the learning from the great teacher, the part about gets playing with themselves each other makes the demons happy.
i wondered how many of us were scared to death as a youngster and even in our 20's 30's that the demons were going to attack us , in our house, furniture flying at us, if we strayed from the organization or once we left the org.
that they were waiting for us, just another scare tactic from the watchtower, what a bunch of bs.. any thoughts ??
As a kid, I had recurring nightmares and "creepy feelings" of being watched at night. My mom and her JW friends talked about demon possession and spiritism, and it fascinated/ horrified me. I imagined I heard them whispering to me at night in taunting voices about all the bad things i did. I used to wake up screaming and feeling smothered. If read library books about witchcraft or vampires, i would then get a splitting headache, as if i was being punished. I would go ahead and read them anyway, because they were so interesting (and forbidden!).
As a pre-teen, the nightmares started occuring because of guilt about sexual curiousity. I continued to have nightmares well into my 20s, after having sex or even just "foolin' around." for a long time i was terrified to go to sleep. I am so thankful to Pfizer for those handy lil pills.
you may be confronted with relatives and witness friends who annoy you, with self-righteous comments about "coming back.
to the 'truth' and other judgemental urgings.. suppose you replied "i forgive the watchtower society for the terrible things they've done, i need to do that so i can progess as a. spiritual person".. such a response might be very disarming - and difficult to counter.. witnesses generally reject the notion that the watchtower can ever do anything wrong - rationalizing that any cruelties they.
inflict are somehow part of a greater divine purpose.
I can forgive my mom and the other JWs who indoctrinated me in WT thinking, but i can't forgive the WT Society itself.
The WTS sounds as conniving and corrupt (even sinister) as the tobacco companies - spreading misinformation and outright lies in the hopes of hooking new converts. The more I read about their history, the more disgusted I get. I hope the onslaught of lawsuits gets them where it hurts.
Forgive people, not organizations. i guess i' m still bitter. suz
what experience at an assembly or convention caused you to raise your eyebrows in disbelief?.
one that comes to mind is a 5 year old conducting several bible studies.
wasn't it hard enough for an adult to get a bible study?
Czar, you crack me up!
I heard one sob story about a JW woman whose son had gone to college, where he committed sexual acts and used drugs. He was disfellowshiped. The sister was so distraught she "literally died of a broken heart." Oh, boo hoo.
the bible study wunderkinds made me sick too. they were all so prepped and scripted. Its scary to see a 5 -year-old who's so smug and prissy, already turning into a self-righteous turd. Ugh.
mine was when i was about ten years old or so back in the mid sixties.
we had a guy in our k.hall who actually lived through the 1914 experience (earl senior).
he was well into his seventies i guess even then and was one of the annointed.
When "My Book o Bible Stories" was introduced, everyone said how beautiful it was. I thought it looked really cheezy and cartoonish. I was put off by the blue-eyed Jesus who kept taking his shirt off (beefcake, anyone?). It seemed to me that all the "bad guys" had olive skin and dark hair/eyes, while god's favorites looked caucasian. - suz
i personally didn't smell anything funny inside a kh.
lol.
but do anyone of you have had bad experiences like having to hold your breath because the person sitting right next to you really smelled?
Once at the Sunday Meeting I sat behind the brother who was giving the talk. He had terrible BO and kept fidgeting and moving his arms, creating a propeller effect so the odor would waft back toward us. His wife was a heavy set woman who wore strong perfume, and she passed gas during the WT tower study. It was so bad that my mom covered her nose and mouth w/ a tissue, and later had to change seats. My sister kept muttering, "i'm gonna die, i'm gonna die" when the sister blew off another one.
BTW my mom ate fistfuls of garlic tablets too, and was pretty smelly herself. SHe used to cough up wads of garlic-scented phlegm at the meetings. thanks, mom!
now i feel kinda sick. -suz
i will have to say mine is a worst/best experience.
i was out in serviceon a saturday with my mother of all things, we went to a door knocked, and this awesome looking 16 or 17 year old girl opens the door wearing nothing but a dress shirt.
As a teenager, I went to an apt. where the guy would only talk to me thru the window. I realized that he was masturbating as he talked. I heard him laughing as me and my partner left. I could never expose (pun intended) my kids to that. I don't think kids or teens should go door to door selling ANYTHING, even candy, Girl Scout Cookies, etc. There are too many sick people out there. - suz
