I know what the castle doctrine is, not sure if you can use that defense when you have a kid accidently go to the wrong address.

Opening doors, putting your foot in the door and other dangerous activities
by Anony Mous ini was listening to the news and there is this big brouhaha about someone shooting someone through their front door.
apparently the person tried to open the door of an elderly person, scaring the homeowner and they shot a gun injuring the person.
obvious castle doctrine case.. which made me remember a rather overzealous old pioneer that used the same tactics when he knew the homeowners were home but didn’t want to come to the door, he would start opening the storm doors and try to see if the door was unlocked so he could yell inside.

Why is this an obvious case of the castle doctrine?

Afghanistan-Kabul falls to Taliban - U.S. Embassy staff evacuated by helicopter
by fulltimestudent inin a scene reminiscent of the fall of saigon, the usa embassy staff have been evacuated by helicopter.. for a third time in asia ( a fourth, if you count usa supported chiang kai shek's defeat in mainland china) usa supported forces have been defeated.
more than 1 trillion dollars wasted and a huge deathtoll (both sides) afghanistan is back to where it started,.
will the taliban behave differently this time ?

I was not a fan of trump personally, but I agreed with him negotiating with the taliban, and I agreed with him getting the ball rolling on getting out. This withdrawal under Biden is a mess though, just listening to the news in the last 6 months it was obvious the taliban was poised to take over the country again. Anyone remember what happened after Russia left?
More priority should have been put on getting u.s. citizens and our afghan allies out months ago. I'm not sure how this could happen. I honestly wonder if Biden just thinks there are enough people thay just want us out as quick as possible and the hell with the fallout.
China is going to have its own problems with Afghanistan. They share a small border with Afghanistan, and will have to contend with balancing their interests along with their relationship with Pakistan.
China also has a little problem with the Uyghurs, and the area where the chinese border is with Afghanistan could turn into a mess for China.
I have a hard time seeing China just waltzing into a country like Afghanistan.

There are alot of bad guys that deserve to die. Sometimes it is more in line with U.S. interests not to order a drone strike, then it is to blow a bad guy up.
I agree, he was bad, wont be sad he is gone. What remains to be seen though is was it worth it?

Clearly he was a bad guy, responsible for many us deaths. I'm not sure how this will help us interests at this time, but I'm willing to wait.
I dislike trump but I wont say this is the wrong move, but I am curious what his plan is. As much as a dislike him i have never taken him to be a hawk. Maybe he is trying to throw everybody off, I dont know.

The Apology Tour
by minimus ineveryone seems to be hitting the apology circuit.
if you ever said anything inappropriate or what might be considered offensive, then you must apologize.
if you possibly could have hurt someone’s feelings, you need to say sorry.

It all depends I think. We all know the type that is needlessly offended, quick to lose their cool, generally difficult to deal with. Apologies may not be in order, they are going to have to learn to grow up.
With that said, I still swear by how to win friends and influence people, especially in the work environment. One of the keys in that book was when you make a mistake, own it, and apologize. I think that's true at work, people will be more apt to work with you when they realize you are honest with yourself and not quick to shift the blame.
Just my 2 cents.

@JimmyYoung
Obviously you have never driven while black. A black friend of mine got pulled over while on a business trip here in the midwest. Officer right away stated he could smell weed, called for backup, a routine traffic stop turned into a whole ordeal. I start talking to her family about it and I was stunned how many of them have been pulled over. Myself? Once.
I'm not saying things are as bad as they used to be, but go and meet some people with different backgrounds before you start with such nonsense.
I dont know whatwoke is exactly, I prefer to use common sense and try to challenge my beliefs.

Cause of Mass Shootings Mental Health?
by blondie ini have been sad to see so many groups and individuals say that the cause of these events are the mental status of the shooters.
i have looked over the backgrounds of these shooters, and few had medically identified mental health issues.
it is too easy to think that people shoot or kill other people because they are mentally ill.. actually, many or most people with real mental illnesses are most likely to be the victims of others.. i have been a volunteer with the organization called nami (national alliance of mental lillness) for 25 years now.

I happened to read this article I thought it was interesting. Not political either which is rare when discussing mass shootings.
https://www.latimes.com/opinion/story/2019-08-04/el-paso-dayton-gilroy-mass-shooters-data
4 commonalities were found:
1. Childhood trauma and exposure to violence.
2. They had reached an identifiable crisis in the weeks or months before, like a change in job status.
3. Most had studied other shooters.
4. All had the means to carry out their plans.
Worth a read I think.
