i sat in town recently, right in the window of a nice wee pub.
within minutes i realised that i had a perfect view of a jw cart and the two ridiculously dressed jw's (they have absolutely no individuality at all.
what's more, they all look like they're going to a funeral).
It's a win-win for witnesses...
If they get the "privilege" of being chosen to do the cart work, they are able to be big fish in small bowls (ie, very important amongst fellow witnesses)
And they get to count time easily.
And if people of the public ignore or ridicule them, it plays right into the "persecution" complex, or the "they took no note" mentality that fuels the whole religion!
had two lovely jws (stephen and ruth) visit this morning.
this was our second study in the last 2 weeks.
they first knocked on my door (bell is out) 3 weeks ago and i shared my testimony and we arranged to meet last tuesday which we did.. our first study went like this:.

i still go to the meetings because of my in wife and it came about that the elders knew of my pissed off attitude about the society getting involved in the un.
so the elders said they could help me get over that and wanted to meet with me.
now just to let you know, i have only told my wife and her mom so far about it, that's it.

i've had a theory for a long time that jws historically have appealed to people who have been displaced or find themselves in a new environment away from family and friends.
i also read an article recently that suggested that internal migration in italy was a big boost for jw growth.
more generally it has long been theorised that new religious movements are a phenomenon particularly associated with disruptive features of modernity, including the hyper-mobility of people in the modern age.

Ask yourselves, when was the last time a well educated, dignified, problem free person with no emotional baggage or issues, perhaps a professional business person or business owner, walked on into a Kingdom Hall and chose to just join up?
No, usually the society appeals to people who are "challenged" in some way....

if an elder approaches you and wants to arrange a shepherding call one possible response is..... "well thankyou brother, but jehovah is my shepherd.
i shall lack nothing.

Just roll up on the door step of an elder and say "It has been noticed that you may be struggling with your spirituality. I am here as a fellow Christian to offer you some guidance and encouragement so you don't suffer spiritually. I'll have a coffee please..." and walk in....
