i was raised in the religion and for the most part believed that my religion was truth.
i recognized some mistakes were occasionally made but felt that nobody is perfect.
then i smartened up and realized how dumb so many of the beliefs are....was there ever a time that you truly believed you had the "truth"?.
I was raised in "the truth".
It was "the truth" simply because it was "the truth"... Circular reasoning at its finest...
Anything I didn't understand was either my fault, or I was not spiritual enough to get it.
As for other topics that were not clear, "wait on Jehovah to explain in Due time" was the standard response...and I was satisfied with that...

And yet, as the ARC masterfully exposed, the Hebrew scriptures contain an account where a man could be stoned to death for raping a woman in a field WITH NO ONE ELSE present. In other words, NO 2nd witness!
i have always maintained that i hold nothing personally against individual witnesses, even those that have actively slandered our name and reputation based on the actions of some individuals.. i have often said that all these ones, (even the ones spreading gossip), are victims of the culture of the organization, and the directions of the gb.. but recently i have been rethinking this, and wonder if ignorance is really an acceptable excuse?.
i mean, with so much information now readily available about the society, its origins, its scandals, issues and conduct, is it simply ok for a witness to remain wilfully ignorant about the organization that dictates every aspect of their lives?.
is ignorance an excuse?.

Yep, it is just so easy for the society to say that donations go "to the worldwide work"....but what ACTUALLY is that??
Where is the profit and loss report, or the annual financial report? ALL reputable organizations issue one of those....

it is an often asked question i know, but it perplexes me.. if witnesses are so convinced that they have "the truth", why is the act of researching information from external sources so taboo?
didn't the bible itself tell people to "use their powers of reason" and also praised ones like the boreans for researching things they were told??.
seriously, if there is no doubt about the organization being "god's channel" on earth, and it alone having the "truth", surely researching would only enhance such 'facts'?.
Yes, truth is truth no matter who presents it.
Even CT Russel said "truth remains truth no matter who presents it. Even if the devil himself presented something of truth, it would still be truth" (words to that effect)
it seems that most people who have been witnesses that i've known in the last 20 years are still jws.
they may not be as zealous as before but they still remain as jehovah's witnesses.

The only real growth in numbers comes from born ins.
Really, honestly, how often do we learn of a person coming in as a result of the witnessing work?? Very rarely....and those that do are generally 'disfunctional' members of the community, not average well adjusted people. Perhaps people in "need" of a sense of belonging, or some emotional reason.
So that's why the organisation encourages children to be born now, and nurtures such ones with the propaganda videos....
