A First for Mrs Phizzy !
by Phizzy inmrs phizzy voted for the first time today !
we have been out for nearly a decade now, but this is the first time mrs phizzy has been persuaded to vote.. she was always afraid that jw's would see her, and then df her for it, i explained (again, we have been over this before) that they would not do so, and my son had a word in her ear too, which did the trick.. she came out of the polling station and said to me "i voted for someone called teresa may, who is she ?".
trying to wind me up, but i knew the wicked witch of westminster was not on our ballot sheet.

Do You Have Any Indoctrinated Guilt Left Over?
by pale.emperor ini voted this morning for the first time.
at 32yo i wondered in a church of england parish hall with no idea what i was doing.
everyone else knew how to do it.

Great thread.
Yes, I voted in our last elections, and bluffed my way through the process... it was a great feeling to do something that we were always told was wrong.
We tried playing the pokies too once...but that was just boring and a waste of money...
But, NO guilt!

What is the most bizarre counsel you received as a JW, from a JW?
by Funchback inthere were many addressed to me.
for example, i once had a sister tell me i was gambling because i liked playing skill crane (the machine where you have to try to pick up prizes like stuffed animals) at the arcade.
i then fired back a her: "you saw the r-rated movie 'backdraft.

Watchtower's Future
by Tahoe inhttps://ny.curbed.com/2017/5/31/15717670/jehovahs-witnesses-watchtower-buildings-renderings-panorama.
the development team that purchased jehovah’s witnesses watchtower building complex in brooklyn heights last year has now unveiled plans for its transformation into a swanky office and retail destination.. .
panaroma, as this new space will be known, will be spread out over the five buildings here that were previously occupied by the jehovah’s witnesses.

I love that comment: "An opportunity to infuse the campus with their culture from the start"!
Haha...yes, a chance for a new "culture" to be "infused".....

"To all congregations worldwide:
It has come to our attention that many brothers and sisters have 'gone beyond the things that are written' and have promoted ideas and teachings not in harmony with the bible. We are taking this opportunity to remind all that it is prudent to be cautious so as to avoid all such tendencies.
Your Brothers
The Governing Body".
Yes, Expect to see a message like that. DESPITE the fact that everything witnesses teach COMES FROM the GB in the first place, they will ALWAYS make it someone else's fault.....

I am so happy that this thread has been revived!
Keep sharing your accounts!
I have lost count of the times witnesses were "counselled" for buying 2-door cars...because they "are not appropriate for Service"

Why do they flee and hide
by eyeuse2badub insomething that has often struck me in my morning musings is: why should “god’s people” ever need to hide or flee in fear?.
there are numerous accounts recorded in the bible, both ot and nt, where prophets, kings, apostles and others have either been told to flee and hide or have just experienced that normal human feeling of fear and have fled and hidden instinctively.
even recently, the wtbts has produced vivid images in the wt magazine and videos of “god’s people” hiding out in bunkers to avoid detection.. is it just another broken promise from jehober that he will “without fail” protect “his people”?

Brilliant point.
Why cant the "almighty" just make "his people" seem invisible to the eyes of opposers?
And by their own admission in the "bunker video", they eventually get discovered by the police anyways!

God of the Old Testament
by unsure into those on these forums who are christian and or to those who believe in the god of the old testament; how does one overcome many of the questionable actions god took or allowed to happen in the old testament?.
many if not most of us have heard of criticisms of the god of the old testament.
you can find these criticisms on many websites.. how do you explain to an honest hearted person why god acted the way they did?.

He could get away with such atrocities and genocidal actions because...well...because he is God.... yer, that should cover it.....
