Updates on people leaving Wallkill?
by Lynnie indoes anyone have any updates on how many people have left wallkill in the last couple of months?.
i keep seeing pics of "going away parties" from my uber heavyweight bethelite cousins.
they are in their late 30's but must have some special thing going on (he's in purchasing i believe) because they get to fly all over the world like africa most recently.

nowwhat? Also noticed on page 2 Jesus is referred To as just a "prophet" not the son of God. Or our savior
Great point!!
I don't ever remember another memorial when they have not had a picture of Jesus on it?? This is just odd!
And really, is it just our cynicism, but how cult-like does that picture look!!??

How about prayers being used as a talk?
by NikL inanother thread on here made me think of it.. its a personal peeve of mine.. you bow your head in prayer and the brother says thinks like thank you for the lessons we learned today like bla bla bla and for that wonderful point about yadda yadda yadda.
jehovah we know that etc etc etc therefore we must...well you get the gist.and on and on it goes.
absolutely drives me mad..

Great comment ttdtt!
Yes, I always cringed when it seemed like the brother giving the prayer was actually TEACHING Jehovah something while he went on and on! Or making sure that Jehovah had not forgotten or missed the content of the meeting because he was asleep...
Or when the brother giving the prayer just summarized or reviewed the entire content of the meeting again!
I would think "OK, yes, we have just heard all of that...why repeat it all...?"
That would be like going to dinner and thanking your host on the way out like this: "Thanks for the invitation to join you for dinner on this, Saturday 10th. We started with some small talk, then you offered us drinks, after which we talked some more then you offered us some snacks before we moved to the other room and sat at a large table made out of oak wood. then you asked if we wanted some peas and steak which were cooked nicely in a sauce.....on and on to desert and farwells"
You get the idea

"But I was just following order and directions!" The 'outsourcing' of personal responsibility
by stuckinarut2 ina thought struck me that throughout history people have often claimed that "i was simply following orders and directions" when it comes to their actions or beliefs.. instead of using logical thinking skills to determine if the course of action is correct, they just assume that it is based on a superior telling them so.. think of someone handling finances for a corrupt boss.
if asked to hide sums of money illegally, can they just say to the authorities "i was just following directions"?.
or as we know, war crimes have occurred in history and the same excuses have been used.. similarly, it seems that witnesses "outsource" their thinking abilities to the society and gb and think and act exactly as directed...even if such changes dramatically as have many, many teachings and beliefs.. think of all the far out and strange things in the society's history.

Good comments!
Yes, Sparrowdown, although they will say "no one is making me...etc", the reality becomes apparent if a witness chooses to grow a beard, or watch a movie, or wear some clothing that doesn't fit with the "official approved" style.
Then we see that there is no room for personal choice.

Taking the Step
by beardfreedom infirst time posting after years of reading, the things i have learned here have gradually helped to open my eyes to the reality of this religion.
though i have been mentally out for some time, lately i have stopped going to meetings and service.
the elders are calling and i have been ignoring them, i am trying to get up the courage to finally break free and never go back.

Welcome!
Yes, once we take the step to allow ourselves to be free of the FOG (Fear Obligation Guilt) that the society uses, the air is indeed much cleaner...and the real life begins!
Enjoy these moments of clarity!
We look forward to your input here in this great community forum!

How many times jehovah is said in a prayer
by Normalfulla inso there was this particular elder in my hall who when giving a prayer would say "jehovah" waaaay to much it was ridiculous, we ended up having a count every time he gave prayer, most of the time it was 15-18 but once he topped 20, if u say it out loud 20 times you'll see how weird it is, like when do you ever in a conversation say someone's name that many times in 2 or so minutes,!

Think of all the far out and strange things in the society's history. We know that if any witness disagreed with the "truth" they would be punished for it. Yet, if just a short time later the society changed its teaching, every witness must change too!
So where does personal responsibility to make an informed and educated decision arise??
Can witnesses just say "I was following directions"?
What would the creator really think of blind obedience based on "outsourcing" ones choices?

It's used more as punctuation by many!
I used to also cringe at the prayers that sounded like the brother was using the prayer to review the entire meeting, and teach Jehovah something while talking to him!

Apparently the Almighty Creator Jehovah made an error when he made males to naturally grow a beard.
The Governing Body know better than Jehovah, and will counsel him over his obvious mistake in creation!

Something funny about Armageddon
by evilApostate inyears ago, when i was still a publisher, i had a very interesting conversation with a lady in the field service.
we were talking about punishment for sin and so on.
she believed in hellfire.

Yes, if death means that sins are forgiven and a resurrection is assured, then EVERY witness should be HAPPY to see all people die....right?
Why be upset when a tragedy occcurs that takes lives? Simply be happy that those killed people "are guaranteed a resurrection "
(Insert sarcasm alert here)
