My father was an aspiring musician in Australia at the same time as the Easybeats rose to fame.
My father could have also been something great if not for the religion.
He was a huge fan of the Easybeats - and will be mortified to learn this!

....' it's not all so uplifting, though.
wright's womanising and heroin use (dated here to the mid-1960s, not the early '70s as is generally accepted) regularly threaten to derail things; dick is torn between his jehovah's witness upbringing and the temptations of the road.

so this is just a general question.
call it curiosity.. what sort of phobias do we have?
heights?
So this is just a general question. Call it curiosity.
What sort of phobias do we have? Heights? Crowds? Etc...
This thought was spurred by something I heard on the radio about a phobia called Trypophobia. (Google it if you dare)
It freaks some people out, while others are not bothered...
hiya, firstly i’m new to this website, so sorry if this topic has been covered before.
i have been out of “the truth” for almost one year.
i live with my non-witness mother, have an amazing boyfriend, work and am in college.
Welcome!
Yes, it can be confronting to realise that those we considered to b our friends when in the org, are nothing more than conditional associates who shared a common faith...no more, no less. So although we thought of them as our friends, they soon disappear when we stop attending.
However, it's not all bad! In fact, once free of the shackles of those people, you are free to REALLY get to know "worldly" people. And guess what? Most are actually very nice!
Most people just want to interact nicely with one another.
Be warm and approachable. (Be careful too) But simply showing kindness and politeness to those you interact with is the start.
I read a good quote that said "a simple hello can be the start of something wonderful"
we all know the gb like to impose rules upon the rules... but did anyone else out there have parents that implemented rules upon those rules?
mine did.
my mum tended to copy whatever the elders wives were doing and took it to the extreme.
Oh and, I could never say "we won" if my sporting team was victorious.
You see, it wasn't that "we" won...as "we are not of this world!"

Yup...most of the above!
this has always baffled me.
that is why was satan and his demons allowed to be in heaven for so long after they split from god?.
if we did that then we are out of the congregation, members are shunned and also kicked out of families homes.
Well, as Jehovah lives on the Pleiades star, he could keep an eye on naughty satan and his friends on the earth....😩
just spent 8 hours in a 1 day elders school last weekend.
clarification given: "moving forward any elder, ms, or pioneer who themselves or someone under their roof enrolls in higher education, may no longer qualify for privileges in the congregation.
their qualifications will have to be reviewed by their boe.".
When I was still an appointed brother (MS) , My wife enrolled in a correspondence university course while still working. (It was a course that would assist her to grow in her profession). She excelled! I am so impressed by all that she accomplished!
Around the same time, there was an elders and ms meeting with the CO that said "any appointed brother who allows his children or wife to attend university would have his qualifications called into question and reviewed"
I was then told categorically that it was "wrong", and that only "bored people attend university", so my wife should rather be occupied in JW activities like pioneering...
Thanks for bumping this thread again!
It reminds me of the amazing fake memorial invitations that were created a few years back.
I found some at our hall!
Anyone remember those threads?
when i was a jw i was fascinated with the mormon religion.
i never believed a word of it of course, but i was interested in their religion like most boys were interested in star wars.
i’ve read the book of mormon, doctrine & covenants, pearl of great price, book of abraham, watched their videos, read critical books by ex mormons etc etc… (strange at the time that i never did this with my own religion!

I also spent some time comparing the websites of the Mormons (there are a couple of sites for all ages etc) and the JW site.
The comparisons and similarities are interesting! (I even started a few threads on it here a while back)
Using their own topics from the site is enough to raise awareness of the stupidity of the religion.
Failing that, simply watch the south park episode with them! "Dumb dumb dumb dumb" (those who have watched it will get that reference!)
