"May I have a copy of the 'Child-safegaurding policy' letter please?"
by stuckinarut2 inso as we all know, the australian royal commission has it on record that a "child safegaurding policy" document was produced hurriedly at the tail end of the australian royal commission.. the commission was told by the society representatives that this would be "freely available to all congregants and interested people".. the commission quizzed the brothers as to whether it would "be freely handed out, or simply handed to those who requested it".
either way, it was to be freely available.. so imagine the surprise of one our fellow faders who attended a kh yesterday to ask for a copy!.
she politely and respectfully asked the brother at the door for a copy.

Wait one minute here!!! Did the GB PURPOSEFULLY launch a D.O.S. attack on Russia? (aka the letter writting campaign)
by GTSfromSY ini know this sounds very outlandish by the title but hear this one out:.
a few months back i spoke to an old friend of mine raised "around the truth", but never baptized and wanting nothing to do with the wt.
he is very hip to what is going on in the wt however.

And the VERY issue the Russian govt had was that JWs are a dangerous high control extremist group led by American leaders...
The campaign to flood the govt WAS "Extreme"
The fact that 95% of witnesses simply did as they were told by their leaders WAS an"Extreme" demonstration of such "High control"
Really, was poking a Bear really a wise idea GB? Did the tactic work? Did it spare your flock from being banned? Did it protect your assets?
Or GB, did you simply antagonise your foe??

Will #metoo have an affect on forcing changing attitudes at Watchtower?
by jwfacts indespite decades of the feminist movement, watchtower's attitude of woman being inferior has changed little, with pauline sexism justified as inspired, on the basis that women are lesser emotionally, intellectually and physically.
jehovah's witnesses seem to accept this with little resistance.
is there anything about the #metoo movement that may wake followers up?
-
stuckinarut2
Yes, good point Jwfacts.
Those women who do find the Jw and biblical misogyny to be outdated and unacceptable, will leave the Society.
Those that stay under such an oppressive and abusive yoke are either incapable of seeing such behaviour as wrong, or have been so conditioned into thinking it is "normal".

Exactly Millie!
That is so true!
If they really want to demonstrate that they are a "loving" and "honest" organization, they would be PROACTIVE and freely distribute this letter! They would NOT have needed "Satan's" worldly judicial system to force them to act in the interests of child safety!

Shoud individuals be held responsible for their INACTION?
by nicolaou inif you see someone about to be struck by a car or otherwise step into harms way but choose not to call out a warning or act in some way to prevent disaster, are you responsible for any harm caused?.
what defence, if any, can be offered for choosing inaction?

Good thread!
Yes, its an interesting question. Is failing to act, (if you have the power and ability to do so) acceptable?
Based on the scriptural message at ezekial 33:8,9 and ezekial 3:18, then failing to take action make someone guilty...
So, applying this to the Society, they have failed to act on many issues, including the correct way to handle child safety and child abuse issues! So, they are guilty according to their "God's" directions!

She politely and respectfully asked the brother at the door for a copy. He knew nothing about it, so called another Elder over. He then called yet another Elder, and yet another! She was surrounded by three Elders who quizzed her (interrogated) about why she wanted it, what it even was, etc.. They replied that they would have to "ask the branch about it".
45 Mins later (while the meeting was proceeding), she left with no document, no help from the clueless Elders, and proof that the clear directions from the Australian Royal Commission has been ignored by the Society!

If you think it is boring, why not create and start an interesting post? Be positive and proactive and see how things go....
After all, the measure you measure out, you will get back in return...in overflowing measures! (Now where have I heard that line before?😉)

Why do ex-JW's talk so much about being ex-JW's?
by Sour Grapes inis it because we were in the cult watchtower compound that we talk about being ex-jw's when we stop being active?
i have never heard anyone say that i was an ex-catholic or an ex-lutheran or an ex-baptist.
they just stop going to their church and don't talk about it.. years after not stepping inside a kingdom hell, many of us still have to talk about being ex-jw's.

I guess that unlike ex-other faiths, witnesses cant walk away without experiencing damaging and slanderous repercussions from those still in.
Unlike ex-other faiths, who can simply move on with life, ex-witnesses can often lose all social, family and community ties...

"ah yes Dad, do you mean those times when Jehovah made those mistakes and errors?"
by stuckinarut2 inso...while chatting with my ultra "spiritual elder" father on the phone this afternoon, i couldn't resist using that line!.
i had sent him that video of the recent convention showing brothers and sisters dancing to the "kingdom song" and waving their illuminated phones and arms in the air like some sort of revival church concert.
(perhaps someone can post that link to that thread again here?).

So...while chatting with my ultra "spiritual Elder" Father on the phone this afternoon, I couldn't resist using that line!
I had sent him that video of the recent convention showing brothers and sisters dancing to the "kingdom song" and waving their illuminated phones and arms in the air like some sort of revival church concert. (perhaps someone can post that link to that thread again here?)
I asked him again how he felt about that (in a light-hearted way). He tried to excuse it and say that it was ok nowadays etc... I reminded him that as a child I was told to stand respectfully and in a dignified way during songs. As a married man, we were told not to hold our wives hands or put our arms around each other during a prayer. These things were "undignified you know!"
Then he said "But things change, and like older teachings, we as Jehovah's people are refined and grow. Yes, even teachings that were wrong are now adjusted"
I couldn't resist and said: "Oh, so Jehovah made mistakes and errors in the past then right?"
He snapped back and said "NO! Jehovah doesn't make mistakes. He is perfect!"
So I again asked "So when those wrong things were taught, was Jehovah having a bad day? Did he get things wrong before when he directed his Spirit-directed Organization?"
His Cognitive Dissonance obviously got the better of him, and he suddenly had to ring off....

E cart witnessing on our way to see Shen Yun in San Francisco
by cha ching intoday, i took the day off to go with my husband to san francisco on bart to see shen yun.
coming out of the station, were two elders at a watchtower cart!
my husband loves to witness to them.. started off with a smile and they smiled back and he told them he had been associated with jehovah's witnesses and now he is not but he wishes to tell them that even though they are going to hear things that are upsetting in the news, there is life after jehovah's witnesses.. they smiled and asked him if they could ask what religion he has gone to, or what he is doing now.
