Activism ideas for our local communities
by stuckinarut2 ini have been thinking of dignified ways to raise awareness about the toxicity of the jw religion in my local community.. so, yesterday, i phoned my local council head office to query the carts that are set up in several places in our town.. i was very polite and professional, and asked the council clerk if they were aware that a religious cult sets up its propaganda stands on council property near families and children on a regular basis.. i said:.
"while i am sure they may be very nice people, the group they represent teaches things that appear to me to be in direct conflict with the values and ethics of our local community and council.".
"their initial message seems pleasant, but i know for example, they are a very misogynistic and homophobic group.

The Ranger also called back to say that she had investigated, and that there is NO record of the group ever seeking formal council approval to do this work on those areas. Therefore they have no authority to be there

"Does your political party agree with religions being tax-exempt?"
by stuckinarut2 inin australia, we have a federal election this weekend for a new prime minister and parliament.. i took the opportunity yesterday to do some "anti-witnessing" when at the polling station.. as i was walking in, i had representatives from all the parties all vying for my vote and thrusting their promotional "how to vote" papers into my hands.. so while i had 5 of them all around me, i politely asked if i could ask their party's view on a very important topic: "what is your party's view on whether religions should be tax-exempt?
do they qualify for such a 'charity status' if they dont actually do any community work or social outreach programs?".
some were unsure, some were quick to say "all religions do good", and some were keen to say that they should only have this tax-free status if they can prove their charity work.. then one asked the perfect question (now with a small group all listening in) "is there a group that concerns you?

In Australia, we have a federal election this weekend for a new Prime Minister and parliament.
I took the opportunity yesterday to do some "anti-witnessing" when at the polling station.
As I was walking in, i had representatives from all the parties all vying for my vote and thrusting their promotional "how to vote" papers into my hands.
So while i had 5 of them all around me, I politely asked if I could ask their party's view on a very important topic: "What is your party's view on whether religions should be tax-exempt? Do they qualify for such a 'charity status' if they dont actually do any community work or social outreach programs?"
Some were unsure, some were quick to say "all religions do good", and some were keen to say that they should only have this tax-free status if they can PROVE their charity work.
Then one asked the perfect question (now with a small group all listening in) "Is there a group that concerns you?" I replied "Well yes actually. I have heard that the Jehovahs Witnesses get a tax free status, and yet they do NO social or community work whatsoever. It seems odd that they get to be a "registered charity" when they dont do any charity work"
In that moment, every party representative, and many listening around all started nodding and agreeing, and making comments on this. EVERY party representative was united in their views of JWs, and all agreed that it "needed looking into"
I was quick to say "I'm sure that the individuals may be nice people, but it seems that their religious groups needs investigation?"
It was just a fun exercise to do!

Hi All!
I have been thinking of dignified ways to raise awareness about the toxicity of the JW religion in my local community.
So, yesterday, I phoned my local Council head office to query the Carts that are set up in several places in our town.
I was very polite and professional, and asked the council clerk if they were aware that a religious cult sets up its propaganda stands on council property near families and children on a regular basis.
I said:
"While I am sure they may be very nice people, the group they represent teaches things that appear to me to be in direct conflict with the values and ethics of our local community and council."
"Their initial message seems pleasant, but I know for example, they are a very misogynistic and homophobic group. Thy condemn education and careers. They also promote the idea of keeping separate from all non JWs and community endeavours, and even teach that a mass genocide of people who are not of their faith is imminent. Above all, they have a history of child sexual abuse mishandling and failure to report such to police."
"It just seems that their principles are at odds with the values and ethics of our community, and I wonder if they should be permitted to set up their stands on council land"
The council took this seriously, and launched an immediate investigation into it, and sent out a ranger to approach them and tell them they are not to set up on council land again. The ranger even called me directly to find out more information.
So I just wanted to share this, as it may be similarly replicated around the world?
If we keep it to just a few key points of concern this seems to work. Particularly in this era of community responsibility, governments and communities are mindful of what occurs under their jurisdiction.

The "Food Truck" analogy
by stuckinarut2 ini was pondering the way the society condemns anyone who looks for "spiritual food" outside of their approved channel.
as we know, jws are only to go to the approved website, and research material.. this illustration came to mind.. lets say we have a 5star fancy restaurant, and a new clean food truck.
both kitchens prepare a meal.. if the food is simply assessed on its own merit, and the source of its production is ignored, it can be deemed as healthy, safe, nutritious and tasty.

I was pondering the way the society condemns anyone who looks for "spiritual food" outside of their approved channel. As we know, JWs are ONLY to go to the approved website, and research material.
This illustration came to mind.
Lets say we have a 5star fancy restaurant, and a new clean food truck. Both kitchens prepare a meal.
If the food is simply assessed on its own merit, and the source of its production is ignored, it can be deemed as healthy, safe, nutritious and tasty. Or it can be deemed as not fit or dangerous.
If however we are swayed by the appearance of the establishment, and dont go further by testing the food and checking the kitchen, we could make a serious mistake.
What if a masterful chef prepared food in the food truck, but a filthy cook threw something together in the 5 star restaurant kitchen?
So too when it comes to FACTS about the Society. Or "The truth about the Truth" if you like.
If the information is factual it is factual!
Of course the GB tell all JWs to only eat their food- which is full of distortion, errors, whitewashing, propaganda and lies. But they also accuse us "apostates" of doing the same!
So surely the food itself needs to be checked- not simply thrown away because of where it was made!?
